Purpose:

The University Services Centre (USC) is a critical part of York's shift towards Service Excellence. The USC brings together teams across administration functions of York into one customer-focused service delivery entity.

Establishing a USC provides a unique opportunity for York to develop and deliver services that are consistent, streamlined, and customer centric through the use of technology.

Under the direction of the Manager, General Accounting, the Expense Compliance Administrator is responsible for the timely and accurate review of expense claims to ensure compliance and eligibility with York and granting agencies' policies and procedures prior to being paid.

The review of these expense claims requires a high level of concentration and extensive knowledge of University policies and procedures combined with a general understanding of funding agency guidelines.

This position provides training to the community as it relates to the completion and submission of claims (online via Concur or manually).The Expense Compliance Administrator will also make recommendations to the Manager regarding processes/procedures that will improve efficiency and reduce risk of non-compliant expenses.


Education:


College diploma in accounting or related field (e.g., business, finance) or an equivalent of 2 years recent experience (defined as within the last three years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks.

This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below. Accounting courses at the 2nd year CGA or CMA level is desired.

Experience:


Three (3) years recent progressive accounting experience including accounts payable, financial monitoring and/or auditing preferably in an institutional environment (e.g., university, hospital, government/funding agency).


Skills:

Working knowledgeable with financial systems such as Peoplesoft, SAP, or QuickBooks.
Intermediate skills in spreadsheets (MS Excel).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to relay specific information on policies and procedures and/or explain specific compliance and/or eligibility issues.
Excellent analytical skills.
Ability to work accurately with excellent attention to detail.
Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
Ability to use good judgment, tact, and flexibility.
Excellent client relations skills with a focus on service excellence.
Ability to work accurately with numbers and financial documentation.
Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment.
