Job Summary:
The ICES Western Staff Scientist is a researcher, employed by London Health Sciences Centre and London Health Sciences Centre Research Institute, whose role is primarily focused on advancing various initiatives to support the strategic priorities of ICES Western.
Strategic priorities include developing a strong core of staff and scientists at ICES Western, as well as developing strong partnerships with key stakeholders within the local research community.
The Staff Scientist works both independently and collaboratively with other ICES Western investigators and staff to provide scientific and methodological advice and support for researchers, knowledge users and decision makers.
The Staff Scientist is responsible for the planning, conduct and quality of the scientific work and deliverables at ICES Western.
Regular Full Time hours per week
Rate of Pay - to commensurate with experience
Responsibilities of the position include, but may not be limited to:
- Mentors ICES Western staff and scientists in designing and conducting analysis and preparing output and reports;
- Engages actively with and/or provides consultation services to investigators and external stakeholders on research feasibility, design, methodology, availability of ICES data and interpretation of findings
- Completes research, analysis, interpretation and report writing;
- Works with investigators and staff in developing DCPs and analytic plans;
- Collaborates on or takes the lead on knowledge translation activities such as report writing, briefing notes, public reports, presentations and peerreviewed publications;
- Contributes actively to the ICES mission and objectives through:
- Participating in ICES committees and working groups;
- Contributing to ICES strategic planning and business planning
- Contributing towards the review and improvement of ICES policies, procedures and other administrative and/or research processes for the effective and efficient management of the organization
- Demonstrates compliance to all ICES policies and procedures;
- Completes annual confidentiality agreement, conflict of interest declaration and privacy refresher;
- Perform other duties within the scope of the position.
Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- PhD in a quantitative discipline such as biostatistics, epidemiology or health service research (or related field);
- Extensive experience (8 years+) working with ICES data;
- 5 years+ experience working at ICES Western;
- An academic appointment at Western University;
- Demonstrated understanding of ICES data holdings and/or the use of large populationbased datasets for health services research;
- Advanced experience independently managing clinical, epidemiological and/or health services research projects;
- Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication and presentation skills; experience in presentation to clinical, policy and decisionmaker audiences;
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills with diverse stakeholder groups;
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and balance multiple projects;
- Strong commitment to accuracy and attention to detail;
- SAS programming skills;
- Demonstrated peerreviewed publication trackrecord including at least one lead authored scientific report or peerreviewed publication;
- Demonstrated experience in knowledge translation such as preparing technical reports, briefing notes, and presentations for different stakeholder groups;
- Strong presentation skills;
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Immunization Requirements:
Before beginning employment at LHSC, all new hires will be required to:
- Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis;
- Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step);
- Provide proof of Health Canadaapproved COVID19 vaccination reflective of Ontario Health's current definition of being fully vaccinated
