National Urban Parks Liaison

Location:

Position Status:
Full-time (40 hours/week), 1 Year Employment Contract with Possibility of Extension

The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct a feasibility study on potential programs and initiatives that could be implemented in a potential National Urban Park.
  • Retrieve and analyze data, from both internal and external sources, as required in the support of the NUP projects and initiatives.
  • Coordinate and cohost engagement sessions with citizens and/or affiliated Parks Canada committee members and representatives.
  • Work with foundational investments feasibility contractors on gathering and analyzing information provided by citizens through engagements.
  • Conduct project specific research such as Métis history and cultural practices, and similar Guardianship programs.
  • Develop reports, knowledge translation materials, and infographics.
  • Develop and maintain constructive working relationships and partnerships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Act as a liaison between the OMG and a host of federal, provincial and municipal representatives.
  • Participate and engage in auxiliary meetings such as the Terms of Reference Committee, working group, checkins, and wordsmithing group.
  • Support general departmental activities and tasks.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.

Skills & Competencies

  • Ability to operate in the field to conduct restoration studies and projects, as required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and partners.
  • Strong cultural sensitivity and ability to work well with community members and Elders.
  • Exercise discretion in handling confidential and politically sensitive information. Strong political sensitivity is required.
  • Selfstarter with the ability to work independently or in a team setting.
  • Ability to produce professional documents, reports, and presentations.
  • Ability to remain organized, multitask, and manage time effectively under tight and competing deadlines.
  • Strong computer skills with aptitude for using new software.
  • Ability to identify and respond to sensitive and complex community, organizational, and political issues, concerns, and needs.
  • An indepth knowledge of federal and provincial Indigenous consultation requirements is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An indepth understanding of the MNA and Métis culture, people, and values is an asset.

Qualifications

  • Postsecondary Degree in Policy, Environmental Sciences, or related field.
  • Two (2) years' experience in related role. A combination of equivalent education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience or training in managing qualitative data and datasets.
  • Experience in ArcGIS or QGIS is considered an asset.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to work a regular schedule of Monday
  • Friday, 8:30 AM 4:30 PM, with occasional evenings and weekends as required.
  • Some travel within Alberta is a requirement. Additional less frequent outofprovince travel may also occur, with notice.
  • Must have a driver's license and an operational vehicle.
