The Role:

Reaching Home Community Program Officer

In this role, you will support to provide capacity to optimize Reaching Home project activities. This position reports directly to the Manager Community, Reaching Program at Vancity Community Foundation and is located at 312 Main in Vancouver. This role is currently working remotely.

This a Full Time, 2-year contract.

A typical day involves :

Analyze Reaching Home project proposals during a Call for Proposals process to provide reviewers with your best advice regarding any concerns about eligibility, risk as well as further any further information you will gather about the proposals. Once a project is recommended, you will conduct due diligence and negotiate budget and other contract terms to provide your best advice to your manager for final contract approval. Once approved, you will prepare the full contribution agreement. Maintain a portfolio of projects which will include direct service projects, capital projects and projects related to coordination and data collection for the sector. You will be responsible for ensuring each of your projects is submitting required reporting documents in a timely manner and that you conduct monitors of projects to ensure that they can achieve their expected results and expend all their funds by fiscal year deadlines. You will report any issues to your manager in order to problem solve and ensure we are fulfilling our contractual obligations to our partner and the Federal government and that community is achieving program and community level outcome targets. Maintain external partners relationships as they relate to the Reaching Home project enabling the achievement of project objectives. Contribute to quarterly reporting as requested by your manager. Stay abreast of housing and homelessness issues and provide insight and updates on deadlines while staying within ongoing subject matter expertise to key partners, (e.g. results-based planning, financial reporting assistance) to optimize community impact. Participating in person consultations, stakeholder engagement opportunities as required Act as advocate for clientele we serve and inform of opportunities to challenge status quo in order to decolonize practices. Host internal team meetings and engagement meetings. Other duties as assigned.

You are:

Very Analytical - with advanced analytical skills, you review information, detect anomalies, investigate, and resolve discrepancies. Compassionate: You understand the challenges faced by homeless individuals and the service providers serving them. You have knowledge or experience related to poverty, homelessness, mental health, addictions, and related risk factors for homelessness. Knowledgeable- You have good foundational knowledge about operations in the nonprofit sector. An Effective Communicator – You have advanced written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, and you can utilize those skills to provide exceptional advice, guidance, explanations, and related support. You will also participate in the development of program content. A Problem Solver & Decision Maker - Advanced problem solving and decision-making skills allow you to apply specific standards and guidelines to the work, escalating unresolved issues to senior staff. A relationship builder – you can adapt your interpersonal and intercultural skills to various target audiences inclusive of those from equity denied groups and are proactive in starting & developing key relationships in all relevant sectors. You can recognize differences of opinion, bring them out for discussion into the open, and look for win-win solutions. A collaborator – you work effectively with others and can recognize own limitations and boundaries. You use non-oppressive styles and methods and organize thoughts and ideas clearly when communicating with other staff and model reciprocal learning.

You have:

Post Secondary Education/Diploma in Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, or a related discipline. Approximately 5 years of relevant experience. Strong familiarity with Excel and/or other reporting software (e.g. SPSS, Survey Monkey, Grant Lifecycle Manager apply). Strong familiarity with data analysis and report writing for policy makers, funder and nonprofits. Previous experience with Grant Proposal processes (e.g. Calls for Proposals) ideally from a funder perspective. Knowledge of Housing First, Homelessness, Addictions, Mental Health and related Government Policies and Programs. Knowledge of the building of housing for homeless/at risk individuals, including pre-development, construction, zoning and permits, is an asset. An aptitude for working in fast-paced, dynamic environments will have high suitability to this role. Proficiency with Excel and other MS Office tools. Experience and exposure to working within a non-profit environment. Exceptional time management, project management and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated knowledge of equity, diversity and inclusivity principles. Aspiration to work within an anti-oppressive and anti-racist organization and have demonstrated experience applying REDI principle. Demonstrated ability to meet timelines. Keen attention to detail. Comfort with routine and data entry as well as the flexibility to take on a wide variety of duties as required. Able to work effectively and with minimal supervision in remote environment while meeting tight deadlines. Comfortable with constant changing priorities.

Bonus Points:

Previous Non-Profit or Government experience is an asset. Previous Financial Services Industry experience.
