Pelican International Inc. is a Quebec manufacturing company that has experienced significant growth since its founding in 1968.

A leader in its field, the company specializes in the development, manufacture and marketing of nautical and recreational plastic products.


Among these products, you will find among others:
kayak, SUP board, canoe, pedal boat, fishing boat as well as utility sleds. The head office is located in Laval and right in the building is the company's main factory. A second plant is located in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield. In addition, in December 2019, Pelican International Inc. acquired all of the assets of Confluence Outdoor LLC, located in Greenville, South Carolina.

This transaction now allows us to offer the widest range of paddle sports equipment on the market, both in terms of high-end products and those that have made Pelican famous for their durability and accessibility.


Category Manager - Strategic Purchasing

RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Senior Director - Strategic Purchasing, the incumbent will be responsible for:

Develop the category strategy and ensure its implementation:

  • Understand the specific category, its cost structure, its suppliers;
  • Develop and execute the strategy taking into account important aspects such as, but not limited to:
  • Total acquisition cost;
  • Risk management;
  • Projects, time to market;
  • Supplier locations, capabilities and performance;
  • Define key indicators to monitor the achievement of the strategy, review compliance and improve efficiency;
  • Prepare, facilitate and summarize cost reduction initiatives;
  • Recommend prioritization of improvement initiatives;
  • Steering and executing the portfolio of initiatives for each of the categories;
  • Anticipate adverse events through data analysis; prepare risk control and management strategies;
  • Forecast of prices and market trends;
  • Manage all mold development milestones;
  • Recommend approval of new projects to management.

Manage suppliers and sourcing for different categories

  • Recommend the qualification of suppliers and management of the list of approved suppliers;
  • Call for tenders and negotiation with selected suppliers;
  • Manage the supplier base, including all related aspects of supplier quality, performance management and business relationships;
  • Initiate, monitor and participate in the supplier improvement program;
  • Develop a supplier performance scoring process.

Other

  • Work with management to establish purchasing policies and ensure compliance;
  • Perform other related duties.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE MEETS THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of seven years of professional experience in the supply chain with a focus on strategic purchasing;

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, preferably in supply chain management;
  • APICS certification, CPIM an asset;Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Experience with an ERP system (eg: SAP);
  • Has excellent verbal and written communication skills in French and English.

  • Strong organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to take initiative and ensure work is completed on time;
  • Experience in negotiation, contract creation and review, analysis, project management, mold development, supplier rationalization, supplier improvement and multisite management;
  • Proven ability to adapt, manage and implement change in a rapidly changing environment;
  • Must be motivated and able to work without detailed instructions;
  • Strong aptitude for teamwork;Possesses intercultural skills and a proven ability to communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization as well as with suppliers located in different countries;
