OVERVIEW

Vertex is currently accepting applications for full-time, permanent Team Lead – Reclamation & Remediation to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing upstream oil and gas and industrial projects in accordance with Vertex guidelines and project scopes and providing technical mentorship and Project Management support to staff under your care and control. This role will focus on managing teams and projects focused on reclamation & remediation including development of work plans and cost estimates, conducting assessment and remediation work, spill response and remediation, reclamation site inspections, detailed site assessments and/or submission of reclamation certificate applications. This individual will play a critical role in the management and technical support of teams conducting reclamation and remediation programs in a cost-effective and pragmatic manner that exceeds our client's expectations.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Diploma or higher education related to environmental sciences, biology or other related discipline
  2. Currently poses a professional designation applicable for conducting professional sign off in Alberta, British Columbia and/or Saskatchewan
  3. Minimum 7 years of environmental work experience with four or more of the following:
    1. Phase I and Phase II program execution
    2. Remediation
    3. Groundwater monitoring
    4. Spill response
    5. Detailed Site Assessments
    6. Reclamation Certificate Applications
    7. Vegetation management/reclamation site inspections
    8. Preparing reclamation closure reports for submission in Alberta and/or Saskatchewan
  4. Project management experience – cost estimates, scheduling, budget tracking, client interactions and communications
  5. Experience in the upstream oil and gas industry
  6. Strong time management and organizational skills
  7. Working knowledge of contaminated sites and reclamation regulations in Alberta and Saskatchewan
  8. Strong leadership/mentorship skills to support staff in the remediation and reclamation work scopes as well as providing guidance on client and project management

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide technical support and project management for a variety of project types within the reclamation and remediation portfolios
  2. Develop and maintain client relationships
  3. Plan, organize, schedule and coordinate project activities as well as coordinating staff associated with project execution
  4. Work collaboratively with Vertex managers and project managers to effectively and safely schedule staff and resources to address client workloads
  5. Work collaboratively with all staff on your teams to drive efficiency, excellent execution, and staff development
  6. Remain current with applicable guidelines, regulations, standards and requirements in relevant operational areas
  7. Provide senior technical review and sign off for reports within your scope of practice
  8. Active stewardship of Vertex and client safety programs is expected as well as supporting the teams in safety excellence for all projects and programs under your care and control
  9. Build relationships within Vertex, with regulators and clients to effectively develop and manage projects within the environmental business unit
  10. Develop and assist with the execution of marketing plans to explore new business opportunities, while managing current clients, to ensure profitability, increase market share, growth and expansion of the Vertex environmental group
  11. Drive improvements in process associated with work scopes and project activities under you care and control
  12. Mentor and coach junior and intermediate environmental staff on all aspects of reclamation and remediation projects to develop and grow teams and individual skill sets

LOCATION

This position will be based out of our Sherwood Park, Lloydminster, or Calgary, Alberta office. Remote or hybrid work are potential options for the right candidate.
