This project consists of testing and optimizing the NRC state-of-the-art high-contrast imaging pathfinder "SPIDERS" during its first on-sky operation campaign (currently scheduled to start at the end of The PDF will take the lead in optimizing SPIDERS' wavefront control loop, in implementing better noise filtering algorithms, in designing calibration methods, and in improving its user interface.

In addition, the PDF will work at developing the instrument spectrograph operation and calibration routines, as well as implementing advanced exoplanet finding algorithms, and to finally actively participate in its science observations.


Education:

Ph.
D. in Physics/Astronomy or related fields (Math/Eng.)

Experience in some of the following high-contrast imaging areas is required: science observations, data processing, simulations, and instrumentation.

Who is eligible?:

  • Fellowships will be for two years contingent on satisfactory progress achieved during the first year.
  • Fellows will work in a lab under the direct supervision of an NRC researcher.

Compensation:


The intent of this hiring action is to staff through the Postdoctoral Fellowships Program at the
AsRO level, which is an
early-career level position with a salary range of
$74,230 to $103,093.
