The Community Standards and Neighbourhoods Branch is looking for a Capital City Clean Up Program Coordinator for the Capital City Clean Up program; a program that was developed to keep our city clean, safe and inviting by reducing litter and preventing graffiti.

Key accountabilities:

  • Provide annual and ongoing evaluation and auditing of trends and issues utilizing various tools, including reviewing available current and historic program data, conducting online research, gathering feedback from operational areas and external stakeholders, engaging consultants to complete focused research on key issues; etc.
  • Make recommendations to the Director and Program Manager regarding long term program goals; drafts policies and develop strategies in order to achieve those goals
  • Influence other civic departments and engage the community (businesses, residents, community groups and agencies) to collaborate and integrate
  • Ensure ongoing networking with similar programs in other municipalities at the regional, provincial, national and international levels on best practices on cleanup initiatives and achieving positive change behaviour
  • Develop complex annual communications and public engagement strategies at a targeted level that supports identified annual deliverables and outcomes
  • Compose and contribute to various Council Reports related to emerging cleanliness and safety issues, including all required research and collaborations
  • Develop and deliver a proactive issues management program and act as the primary spokesperson for Capital City Clean Up
  • Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring and training of staff to promote growth and development while maintaining accountability for achievement of key outcomes and performance targets
  • Provide guidance and direction in the hiring and retention of staff, including reviewing and assessing duties, responsibilities, workflow and workloads in order to realign work to more effectively, build staff capacity and capitalize on strengths, as well as prioritize and manage new and emergent project work
  • Responsible for fostering a culture of learning, innovation, and creativity that supports the growth of staff while promoting health and wellness, safety, and performance development
  • Manage all aspects of social marketing and community outreach in support of Capital City Clean Up to achieve long term, sustainable behaviour changes in the community and high levels of participation in litter and graffiti reduction and other beautification and "pride in place" initiatives
  • Develop, maintain strategic external relationships and recruit diverse sponsors that support and impact the achievement of Capital City Clean Up goals
  • Identify key stakeholders and deliver presentations on various aspects related to cleanliness and safety as needed
  • Responsible for the day to day and operational management of the unit's budget

Qualifications:

  • University degree in Marketing, Commerce, or Community Development
  • A combination of education and related experience may be considered
  • A minimum of seven years experience, including staff supervision, strategic planning, budget management, and community development
  • Strong leadership and managerial skills are required
  • Experience in recruiting nonprofit organizations and businesses as partners/sponsors in a communitywide initiative
  • Ability to foster a spirit of collaboration amongst a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated sound reasoning and decisionmaking skills in a dynamic, fastpaced work environment
  • Strong project management and program development skills and experience
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills Strong organizational, time management and prioritization skills are required
  • Proven ability to develop marketing strategies and effectively implement them
  • Capacity to manage multiple programs concurrently and effectively manage time and respond to issues in a timely manner
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Must obtain business auto insurance for personal vehicle use while on City business
  • Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
