Plains is seeking to add an Analyst, Customs Compliance that will be responsible for customs processes, reporting to governments, and analyzing customs and logistics related data, conduct or assist with audits.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Research, address, and action complex requests, including reviews of tariff schedules, explanatory notes, and rulings and within specific timelines.
  • Assist and provide guidance to internal and external stakeholders to ensure our imports and exports are timely, efficient, and compliant with respect to the regulations of countries involved and internal policies.
  • Prepare export and import documentation to ensure timely release and delivery of shipments.
  • Utilize systems to review customs invoices, maintain customs broker partners and verify that accurate and complete customs related data is transmitted to carriers and brokers.
  • Work in partnership with crossfunctional teams across multiple locations.
  • Retrieve, analyze, and integrate internal ETRM and/or ERP shipment data, CBP data, CBSA data, customs broker data etc. to ensure data integrity, accurate reporting, and compliant imports and exports.
  • Conduct audits, including customs entries, identify and correct errors, prepare value reconciliations, as well as recommend corrective actions if applicable.
  • Prepare and submit reports, anticipate, and respond to inquiries for various government agencies such as:
  • Canadian Energy Regulator (CER),
  • Energy Information Administration (EIA),
  • Statistics Canada
  • Provide customs data to internal stakeholders (US & Canada) for reporting purposes.
  • Adhere to procedures, and identify improvement opportunities to strengthen procedures or adapt to changes in the business environment.
  • Update internal customs guides, standard operation procedures, desk procedures, tools, intranet, SharePoint libraries, etc. in the spirit of continuous process improvement.
  • Provide customs training to internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum of 7 years combined experience in customs brokerage, customs compliance, logistics, and analysis
  • A minimum of one of the following:
  • Professional Designation with CBSA,
  • Customs Compliance Specialist (CCS) CAN/USA,
  • Certified Export Specialist (CES) USA or
  • Certified Trade Compliance Specialist (CTCS) designation
  • Preference for postsecondary education in Supply Chain, Logistics Management, or International Business
  • Positive attitude and the ability to work well in a fastpaced team environment.
  • Cleared criminal history (background) and satisfactory reference checks.
