The role:


To lead and support, in a senior finance leadership capacity, various Group Finance activities included standardization and centralization, finance and other transformation initiative, and represent group finance in strategic transaction and initiatives.


Key Accountabilities:

  • To lead and support, in a senior finance leadership capacity, various Group Finance activities included standardization and centralization, finance and other transformation initiative, and represent group finance in strategic transaction and initiatives.
  • Build out new capabilities in with the group finance structure, include a finance/actuarial controllership function, group share compensation administration and accounting, lease accounting etc.
  • Directly interpreting GAAP accounting and monitoring of complex/high risk activities, including, among other items, assumed reinsurance agreements, GWP estimates and revisions, Loss Sensitive accruals, variable commission expense, intangible assets and other key balance sheet accounts.
  • Responsible for ensuring appropriate documentation is produced to explain and support Group Finance processes
  • Support or lead on various adhoc projects and initiatives throughout finance.
  • Continually develop expertise and technical knowledge through identifying and implementing appropriate learning and development activities
  • Support the Group CFO and CAO, maintain key relationship with various internal and external stakeholders, including Rating Agencies, certain reinsurers etc.
  • Builds positive, open and constructive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to respond in a timely manner to adhoc queries ensure service delivery meets current and future business needs.
  • Maintains regular contact with cross functional teams to monitor progress and ensure clarity, including responding to adhoc queries

Skills and experience:

  • Technical understanding of insurance accounting and regulatory requirements
  • Sarbanes Oxley compliance and audit requirements
  • Familiarity with Finance systems and cart of account design
  • Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint, and Sharepoint skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Organised and strong prioritisation skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Good at establishing and maintaining internal and external solid working relationships
  • Effective at influencing all stakeholders
  • Analytical with a commercial and continuous improvement mindset
  • Professional accounting qualification (ICAEW, ACA, SAICA CA (SA) or equivalent)
  • 15 years post qualified years of experience
  • Experience within the general insurance industry, working in Insurance and Reinsurance segments and with previous Group Finance experience (preferable)
  • Led and managed, newly established teams successfully
