iGaming OntarioTM (iGO) has established a new online gaming (igaming) market provided through private gaming companies.

Formed in July 2021, iGO is working collaboratively with the Government of Ontario and Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario to bring the world's best igaming experiences to the province in a safer environment, helping to protect consumers and provide more choice.

iGO is seeking a Technical Accounting Lead to join its growing and dynamic team.


Reporting to the Senior Manager, Finance, this position will lead the iGaming Ontario technical accounting function and provide accounting and financial reporting support and expertise required to address the unique and non-routine accounting matters affecting iGO.

These include, but are not limited to, financial planning, forecasting, analysis and reporting, with a focus on, and accountability for, interpreting and developing the relevant accounting policies, processes and internal controls.

This position is also responsible for financial period and year-end close activities as well as providing accounting support to produce iGO's financial statements and related materials, as well as various other internal and external reports.


Key responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Lead the implementation of iGO's non-routine accounting and technical financial reporting needs, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards, and development of supporting requirements and frameworks.
  • Provide accounting support to produce iGO's financial statements and related materials, as well as various other internal and external reports, ensuring compliance with, and implementation of, major accounting and financial policies, procedures and directives (e.g., IFRS/PSAB standard compliance) as well as financial internal controls, including relevant system integrations.
  • Colead the creation of a robust financial reporting and internal control framework ensuring accuracy and integrity of financial information.
  • Prepare iGO's financial statements and related artifacts in accordance with Canadian generally accepted accounting principles, directives, standards and regulations (GAAP/IFRS/PSAB) and manage the yearend audit process.
  • University degree supplemented by a Canadian professional accounting designation (e.g., CPA, CGA, CMA, CA) and 5+ years of technical accounting experience, including financial reporting and internal controls.
  • Indepth experience with creating accounting and financial reporting strategies and frameworks and implementing policies and processes to support all internal and external financial reporting, including related internal controls and external assurance requirements.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS), International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Demonstrated expertise in researching, interpreting and developing recommendations on nonroutine accounting transactions including financial statement presentation matters and developing related accounting position papers including translating these into policies, processes and standards.
  • Evident experience with preparing full sets of financial statements and related artifacts in accordance with Canadian generally accepted accounting principles, directives, standards and regulations, as well as management of external audit engagements.
  • Experience in managing Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) tax obligations, including calculation of remittances to the Government of Canada. Knowledge of Games of Chance (GST/HST) Regulations of the Excise Tax Act is an asset.
  • Expertise in the use of financial information systems (e.g., MS Business Central, Oracle Financials) and spreadsheet software (e.g., MS Excel) to analyze data in an efficient and effective manner and to streamline accounting and reporting efforts.
  • Ability to lead the process of assessment and implementation of appropriate financial system integrations/customizations.
  • Ability to translate complex/technical financial information for nonfinancial audiences.
  • Knowledge of communications tools (e.g., Outlook, including Internet and Intranet) and computer software (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Adobe) to prepare accounting and financial reports, briefing notes, presentation materials, correspondence, etc. and to access information from Internet/Intranet, conduct research and communicate with staff and stakeholders.
This position falls within the scope of a bargaining unit represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU).

In the upcoming months, iGaming Ontario and OPSEU will be negotiating the terms of a collective agreement which, once concluded, will govern the terms and conditions of this position.
