In your role as the Accounting Analyst at The North West Company (NWC), you will have day-to-day responsibility to ensure the timely preparation and submission of customer invoices and the subsequent certification and collection of associated receivables.

Your Role:

  • Provide accounting services to the Design, Facilities, and Project Management team;
  • Receive and audit invoices and enter into database;
  • Process invoices and timesheets for Project Management approval;
  • Collect data from Project Management team and maintain budget on current status of capital projects;
  • Be responsible for preparing month end working papers and journal entries;
  • Support the reconciliation and analysis of the Balance Sheet including WIP, AR, AP and holdbacks;
  • Confirm orders have arrived on site;
  • Set up subcontractors in financial ERP system and reconcile subcontractor invoices against daily tracking;
  • Responsible for supporting centralized accounting services;
  • Update and maintain records of centralized cost estimating/budget database;
  • Matching, coding, and accurate processing of vendor invoices and subtrade progress billing forms;
  • Responsible for auditing and payment of all invoices;
  • Identify areas of inefficiencies in monthly, quarterly and annual processes and offer solutions to improve efficiencies;
  • Contribute towards the development and maintenance of internal controls processes;
  • Work with the Facilities team to validate warranties;
  • Assist with office administration as required

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in business or technical field of study (accounting preferred);
  • A minimum of six years' experience in financial accounting in lieu of the Bachelor's degree and not actively enrolled in the CPA program may be considered;
  • Completion of or working towards a recognized professional designation (CPA) is an asset;
  • Minimum 35 years relevant accounting experience, with experience in construction, engineering or manufacturing an asset;
  • Experience with an ERP system is an asset;
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Access;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with management;
  • Must be detail conscious while maintaining a high degree of accuracy. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks while working within strict timelines;
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills;
  • Previous experience in account reconciliation and data entry;
  • Understanding of PeopleSoft is considered an asset;
  • Must be selfmotivated and quick to learn new tasks and processes;
  • Solid understanding of construction industry contract billing, SOVs, holdback / retainage, and project certification protocol are all fundamental perquisites;
  • Maintain accounts receivable reporting;
  • Coordinate with project managers to make any adjustments to draft billings prior to issuing to client / payment certifier;
  • Review of construction contracts for billing instructions and special conditions;
  • Prepare substantiated costings for each billing cycle; and
  • Relevant experience with Procore Construction Software and/or Crystal Reports considered an asset.
