Fort Garry Industries has an exciting opportunity for an Accounting Analyst to join our team at our corporate head office in Winnipeg.


Reporting to the Director of Finance, The Accounting Analyst is responsible for ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting of FGI operations through data analysis, detailed reports and strategic decision making.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in depth analysis of financial statements, identifying trends, variances and areas for improvement
  • Assist with the development of financial models to support forecasting and budgeting processes
  • Assist with the development of financial reporting using Business Analytics tools
  • Prepare and present financial reports for management, highlighting key performance indicators and financial metrics
  • Participate in the management and reporting of fixed assets
  • Ensure compliance and provide guidance to project teams with accounting principles, regulations and internal policies
  • Stay updated on accounting standards and implement necessary adjustments
  • Collaborate with external auditors during financial audits and project team as needed
  • Provide documentation and explanations to audit inquiries
  • Identify opportunities for policy and process improvements as well as efficiency enhancements in financial procedures
  • Implement best practices to streamline accounting processes
  • Provide recommendations to members of the finance team and/or others in the department to implement and track margin improvement initiatives
  • Utilize accounting software and ERP systems to perform daily tasks efficiently
  • Ad hoc finance and operations projects as required by the Director of Finance
  • Perform daily general ledger accounting, financial reporting and analysis
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required
  • Minimum 35 years of experience in accounting or finance with focus on financial analysis roles required
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and regulations required
  • Experience with ERP systems, data warehousing tools and databases an asset
  • Heavy duty parts knowledge or background an asset
  • Advanced level analytical and problemsolving skills ability to find creative solutions that meet the needs of divisional leaders.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills and communication skills (including written and verbal), with experience in developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships built on trust and respect
  • Ability to work productively in a fast paced, continuous learning, teamoriented environment whether working independently or collaboratively
