Clinical Resource Nurse, Acute Perinatal Program

The Clinical Resource Nurse provides front line support, guidance and leadership in the delivery of care activities in defined areas of clinical expertise. Acts as a clinical resource for nurses, students, and the interdisciplinary team. Assists staff in providing quality care and related quality assurance requirements by providing information based on theory/ best practice, assessing clinical/technical skills and participating in direct patient care as appropriate, in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures.

What you'll do

Provide clinical leadership and consultation to clinical staff and students to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care through methods such as ensuring compliance with standards of practice, promoting staff collaboration with health care professionals. Provide clinical support and facilitation of learning experiences for new nursing staff, casual staff and senior nurses in the Acute Perinatal Program by role modelling direct patient care skills, providing information based on application of theories, concepts, principles and best practices, and maintaining current reference material to assist staff/students to provide quality patient care. Participate in the performance appraisal process for nursing staff by providing input to Program Coordinator (PC) and/or Perinatal Clinical Educator (PCE) on individual nurse's performance. Assist the PC and PCE with planning, developing and evaluating patient care by providing input regarding clinical practice and the provision of new and/or revised policies, procedures, standards and criteria for the unit, in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team. Ensure necessary equipment and supplies are available and informs Program Manager or designate when problems arise. Collaborate with the Program Manager, PC, PCE, and other members of the nursing leadership team to coordinate the introduction of new skills/procedures, and arrangement of in-service sessions/orientations as required. Collaborate with the Nurse Educators and other members of the nursing leadership team or designates to produce other educational materials as required. Facilitate implementation and follow on for new initiatives. Assist the Program's Quality & Safety Leader by participating in quality improvement and risk management activities for the Program through methods such as evaluating changes in nursing practice, conducting safety audits, safety huddles and taking corrective action. May recommend changes to practices as well as to current procedures and protocols. Promote research based practice through methods such as collaborating with interdisciplinary team and promoting staff awareness and involvement in research activities. Participate on committees as assigned and report information back to the unit/program staff. Perform other related duties as assigned

What you bring

Qualifications

Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Three years' recent related perinatal nursing experience including one year in an educational or leadership role, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Certification in Cardiotocography. Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
