THE OPPORTUNITY:

We are looking for a skilled and experienced labour relations professional to join our team.

Reporting to the Manager of Employee/Labour Relations and Health and Safety, you will play a vital role in providing expert guidance and support in all aspects of labour relations and human resources activities including policy and contract interpretations, collective bargaining, investigations, and grievance handling.

The successful incumbent has confidence in their ability to navigate and find solutions in ambiguous situations and is comfortable with the inherent unpredictability of such situations.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the overall success of our organization by fostering positive employee relations and promoting fair and equitable workplace practices within a complex and dynamic working environment.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


Completion of a diploma in human resources (or related) preferred or equivalent combination of directly related education, training and experience, supplemented by courses in a related field.

Five to seven years of experience working in a unionized environment providing advice on a full range of labour relations and human resource matters.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Considerable knowledge and deep understanding of current employment legislation and relevant case law
  • Demonstrated ability in grievance handling and resolution with experience working closely with union representatives and management to mediate disputes, facilitate discussion and find mutually beneficial solutions
  • Skilled in interpreting and providing accurate and timely guidance on collective agreement provisions based on arbitral jurisprudence
  • Ability to conduct fair, objective investigations and recommend consistent remedial action per collective agreements and policies
  • Ability to collect, analyze and interpret labour relations data to identify trends, areas for improvement and key insights to inform decisionmaking and strategic planning

LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES
A valid Class 5 Driver's License in the Province of British Columbia with a safe driving history
