We are looking for Technical Outreach Officers to support our Construction Research Centre as it is addresses one of the biggest challenges facing Canada's construction sector: Decarbonization.

The incumbents support the Manager, Low Carbon Regulatory Solutions by planning, developing, implementing and monitoring stakeholder outreach, engagement and information transfer strategies, by identifying opportunities and coordinating communications, media, and outreach activities, as well as by identifying, engaging and liaising with the construction industry, stakeholders and stakeholder associations.


The incumbents will provide strategic advice to Construction management on communications and outreach strategies and participate in the preparation of briefing material and responses to stakeholder issues or concerns, and media and/or ministerial correspondence.


Screening Criteria:

Education:

A degree from a recognized university in marketing, communications, public policy or in a scientific/technical field is required.

Experience:

  • Experience in providing stakeholder outreach, engagement, strategic communications planning, and/or technical information transfer services in a regulatory agency, the construction industry or a science and technology transfer environment.
  • Experience liaising with key stakeholder associations, corporate communications branches, media outlets and government departments to ensure the successful implementation of stakeholder outreach, engagement and information transfer priorities.
  • Significant experience in researching, writing and producing technical content (related to engineering, architecture and/or scientific fields) using traditional and online information transfer products and the use of the web as a strategic outreach tool.
  • Significant experience working with internal and external clients.

  • Knowledge of engineering, architectural and/or scientific concepts and terminology.
  • Knowledge of current trends and techniques in stakeholder outreach, communications, engagement and business writing/editing.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory or construction industry or of science and technology.
  • Knowledge of climate change mitigation and decarbonization would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to research and understand technically complex materials and to effectively target the information to specific stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage and write a diverse range of print and electronic technical information transfer products.
  • Ability to write a variety of reports and outreach materials in English.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities, some with competing priorities, keep them on task and deliver results.
  • Knowledge of the Government of Canada's communications policies and related guidelines may be an asset

The intent of this hiring action is to staff this position at the
RCO-2-4 level, which is
a mid-career level position with a salary range of
$80,523 to
$161,258.
