NRCan has transitioned to a hybrid work environment which offers employees the opportunity to telework and work from the designated work location, subject to operational requirements. Duties

Provide engineering and technical analysis and advice and technical support on energy efficiency projects administered by the Office of Energy Efficiency.

Work environment

Natural Resources Canada's (NRCan) Office of Energy Efficiency leads Canadians to energy efficiency through policy guidance for the whole of government, both domestically and internationally, and through the delivery of major federal energy efficiency programs and incentives designed to increase awareness and further the advancement:

• of energy efficient practices, technologies, products, codes, standards, benchmarking and practices in new and existing buildings and homes;

• in the industrial systems and processes of Canadian industries;

• in the design and promotion of energy efficient products and equipment; and

• in energy efficient labelling of products, new or existing construction and industrial facilities.

EDUCATION
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, chemical, environmental, aeronautical engineering, geological engineering, architectural engineering or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

EXPERIENCE

• Experience in conducting technical and data analysis, assessments or reviews in one of the following sectors: commercial/institutional buildings, housing or industry.

• Experience preparing technical reports, studies, and presentations.

• Experience in providing technical advice and support to managers, professionals, or the public.

Experience is defined as the depth, breadth and complexity of experience normally acquired with having performed work, as part of the regular duties of the candidate, for a period of at least (2) years following graduation from a post-secondary institution.

ASSET EXPERIENCE

• Experience in dealing with equipment and systems affecting energy in buildings.

• Experience in energy management practices (such as benchmarking, energy audits, retrofits, modelling) in the building sector.

• Experience in dealing with energy codes and standards as it relates to equipment and buildings.

• Experience with extracting, organizing and synthesizing data from a database and performing research.

• Experience in using HOT2000 simulation software and in interpreting results from a building science perspective.

• Experience in providing engineering support for the delivery of initiatives, programs or standards related to housing in a multi stakeholder environment.

• Experience in conducting energy evaluations, retrofits or construction, applied to Canadian to low-rise residential buildings and equipment.

• Experience with designing, modeling, testing, maintaining, or manufacturing technologies and systems for industrial processes.

• Experience in conducting energy audits, identifying energy-saving opportunities, and implementing energy-efficient practices in an industrial setting.

ASSET KNOWLEDGE

• Knowledge of various types of industrial equipment, machinery, and systems, such as boilers, chillers, HVAC systems, or manufacturing lines.

• Knowledge of regulations, codes, and standards that pertain to the industrial sector, such as those related to safety, environmental impact, and energy efficiency.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Willingness and ability to work flexible hours including overtime.

• Willingness and ability to travel occasionally.
