Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) currently has a vacant Administrative Support V (ASV) position within the Genetics and Genomics (G&G) team at the University of Alberta Hospital (UAH).This ASV position provides advanced/specialized administrative support to the Genetics and Genomics provincial program, including mentoring and training for a small group of administrative support staff; developing and implementing changes to office policies and procedures; and assisting with department-based human resource functions.

Genetic and Genomics (G&G), as part of Alberta Precision Laboratories, provides complex genetic testing for a broad range of inherited conditions, serving an important role in the provision of genetic services for the province of Alberta.

Genetics and Genomics is a provincial program comprised of 8 laboratories on two sites.

The primary role of the Administrative Support V is to provide comprehensive administrative support to the Medical/Scientific Directors (2) of G&G and Molecular Pathology and duties related to that portfolio, and also provides some support to operational leadership of G&G and Molecular Pathology operational leadership in meeting support and special projects.

As an administrative professional, you will be working in a fast-paced environment, performing multiple tasks involving independent decision-making, responding to shifting priorities, and coordinating a large work volume often with short deadlines.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of post-secondary education (e.g. certificate in office or business administration).

Additional Required Qualifications:

2 years of secretarial or administrative support experience in a healthcare setting, including handling of confidential patient files/results. Working knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint. Excellent customer service skills. English fluency and superior communication skills (reading, writing, verbal). Excellent typing and database entry abilities (both speed and accuracy). Demonstrated ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and deliver accurate work under stressful conditions. Demonstrated organizational and coordination abilities. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated qualities of self-motivation and personal initiative. Demonstrated history of personal and professional development.
