Public Archaeology Field School Assistant

The Saskatchewan Archaeological Society (SAS) is seeking a post-secondary student to assist with our Public Archaeology Field School Program.

This program is focused on the facilitation and delivery of public field schools at Original Humboldt and Fort Carlton archaeological sites.

Duties include reviewing background materials, preparing sites for excavation, assisting with field excavations and artifact recovery, artifact cleaning, disseminating information to public audiences, and delivering other archaeology educational programming to youth.

It involves a human-interest component and applicants should have experience and be comfortable working with diverse audiences and public speaking.


Qualifications:
- must be a current post-secondary student in Archaeology/Anthropology, Museum Studies, Indigenous Studies, History or a closely related field (Master's program is preferred but experienced BA or BSc's students will be considered)
- archaeology field method experience (i.e. completed archaeology field school and/or field work)
- familiarity with historical archaeology is an asset
- computer competency in Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
- energetic, motivated self-directed but capable of working in a team setting
- excellent communication and organizational skills
- are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non

  • Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible);
- are legally entitled to work in Canada;
- are between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
- are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;
- will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) during the Young Canada Works work assignment;
- have been a full-time high school, college, CEGEP or university student (as defined by their educational institution) in the semester preceding the YCW work assignment; and
- intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW work assignment.
