Your role

As a Communications Specialist, Indigenous Outreach and Engagement, you will lead the development of relationships with key stakeholders across Canada, both within and outside our organization. Your focus will be on engaging with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities, leveraging communication channels to gather feedback, participate in events, and support the CBC/Radio-Canada National Indigenous Strategy. Working closely with the Senior Communications Manager, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), you will collaborate with a diverse team to create and publish content for our platforms.

You will closely collaborate with the Indigenous Office, various teams at CBC/Radio-Canada, and demonstrate a passion for enhancing stakeholder engagement through effective communication.

The context:

As a national public broadcaster, CBC/Radio-Canada is dedicated to representing the diverse experiences of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples. It is vital to foster strong relationships with Indigenous communities daily, within our workforce, storytelling efforts, and organizational partnerships.

In this role, you will be expected to:
  • Develop and nurture relationships with key Indigenous constituencies
  • Create communications in English and French aligning with the National Indigenous Strategy
  • Develop internal and external communication tools for greater visibility of Indigenous experiences
  • Draft communications for various stakeholders to showcase CBC/Radio-Canada's work
  • Research and implement best practices for engaging with Indigenous communities
  • Assess communication initiatives and suggest improvements
  • Ensure quality and availability of documentation in Indigenous languages
  • Coordinate for consistent language use and terminology
  • Oversee project management for timely delivery of outputs
Qualifications and Experience
  • Three to five years of experience in Indigenous relations, community engagement, or communications
  • Strong writing skills and experience in content creation
  • Previous engagement with First Nations, Inuit, or Métis communities
  • Understanding of Indigenous governments, cultures, and engagement practices
  • Excellent cross-cultural communication skills
  • Belief in using creativity and storytelling to build relationships
  • Proficiency in English/French, both spoken and written
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse groups and professions
  • Flexibility and adaptability in tasks and priorities
  • Independent work ethic and meeting deadlines
