Position Description:

***: Reporting to the Clinical Director, the Clinical Manager is responsible for the 24/7 overall clinical and business operations of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Critical Care Response Team (CCRT) Program. This includes planning, implementing, coordinating and evaluating quality, risk, operational efficiency and pandemic response. The Clinical Manager collaborates with internal stakeholders including Non-clinical and Nursing staff, Department and Program Managers, Clinical and Department Directors, Professional Practice Leaders/Advisors, Medical Director, Physicians and program learners, other interprofessional healthcare team members, and external partners. The Clinical Manager ensures that the nursing and clerical staff within the program function within their professional scope of practice as defined by their regulatory body and professional association and perform at an optimal level to meet program and corporate strategic plans.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Undergraduate degree, BScN or related discipline required
  • Masters degree in related discipline, preferred
  • Regulated Health Professional
  • 57 years practical and related experience and/or 1+ year on the job training required.
  • Minimum of 3 year of clinical frontline management.
  • Experience in an academic health science centre is an asset
  • Progressive leadership or management experience in a healthcare organization
  • Demonstrated ability working in a fastpaced, dynamic environment
  • Excellent decision making which reflects sensitivity to financial, operating and human resource constraints
  • Outstanding analytical, problemsolving, planning and evaluation skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with a proven track record of fostering collaborative partnerships
  • Committed to excellence in exceptional patient care and continual focus on quality improvement and results driven outcomes
  • Demonstrated human resources management skills in a unionized environment
  • Highly knowledgeable on MOHLTC Provincial Standards for Critical Care Nursing, CACCN, CNO Standards
  • Demonstrated continued education in Leadership, Budgeting, Performance Management, Labour Relations, Coaching, Team Building, Research Skills, Teaching Skills

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages the development, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of quality improvement initiatives which are in alignment with established SJHH standards and Critical Care Services Ontario (CCSO) and Canadian Association of Critical Care Nurses Standards.
  • Collaboratively ensures the excellence in patient care delivery and service delivery through continuous quality improvement processes that include planning, quality monitoring and risk management
  • Initiates and leads change effectively within the programs.
  • Responsible for risk management; to review, follow through and report on complaints and safety incident reports in a designated time frame.
  • Coaches staff to ensure that continuous quality improvement initiatives are incorporated into daytoday activities.

  • ICU and CCRT, Surge capacity management, program to assess performance against established benchmarks and identify opportunities in collaboration with stakeholders for improving services and patient outcomes in accordance with MOHLTC, CCSO and Accreditation Canada standards.
  • Individual is responsible to the Clinical Director for key performance indicators, monitoring and outcomes.
  • Maintains currency with professional standards relevant to Critical Care-Develops and develops expert knowledge of the current service model and incorporates this knowledge as well as best practices and relevant research literature into the development of new models.
  • Develops the unit/department's annual operating budget for the utilization of resources.
  • Manages actual expenditures to ensure remains within approved budget guidelines and identifies and implements strategies to manage unfavorable variances.
  • Supports staff and provides leadership in problem solving, conflict management and decision making by ensuring administrative policies and procedures are followed.
