Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sweeps, mops, scrubs, or vacuums all floors.
  • Scrubs, sanitizes, and supplies restroom facilities.
  • Cleans snow and spreads gravel as required on pathways during winter.
  • Gathers and empties trash.
  • Water and maintain indoor and outdoor plants
  • Dusts furniture, walls, and equipment.
  • Cleans windows, mirrors, and partitions with soap and other cleansers.
  • Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power machinery to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Steamcleans carpets and rugs.
  • Manages inventory of cleaning supplies so that they don't run out.
  • Keeps building and property in clean and orderly manner.
  • Performs basic routine maintenance activities.
  • Notifies managers regarding the need for repairs or additional services required.
  • Stocks the snack Drink dispenser and maintains supplies
  • Waters Indoor and outdoor plants as needed
  • Other suitable duties as assigned

Custodian Qualifications / Skills:

  • Knowledge of standard cleaning methods and procedures.
  • Ability to do strenuous work as stated above
  • Ability to perform repetitive motion for extended time.
  • Experience with using cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and cleaning solutions.
  • Background in handling, mixing, and using cleaning chemicals. (WHMIS is an asset)
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety rules.
  • Communication skills
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders and work at particular heights

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Basic English and Math skills or high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 12 months of experience in a Canadian company/organization.
