Driver - Public Service Assistant (Bookmobile)

Under the direction of the designated supervisor (Distribution Services) and working within a team
structure this position is responsible driving Bookmobile vehicles, providing circulation service associated
with the Bookmobile Service within the City of Toronto and performing other related duties as may be
assigned.

DUTIES:

Operating an automotive commercial vehicle under applicable legislative requirements as
described in the City of Toronto Fleet Policy

Driving Bookmobile vehicles according to the Bookmobile Service schedules and for servicing as
required

Driving other Library vehicles as required
Loading and unloading the vehicle of boxes, equipment or materials
Following pre-arranged routes to designated Bookmobile stops
Fuelling the Bookmobile vehicles
Following preventative maintenance schedule
Arranging maintenance, servicing when required
Driving the Bookmobile vehicles in a safe and courteous manner
Cleaning and maintaining the interior of the vehicles
Working with the public service staff member assigned to the vehicle to perform circulation

functions associated with Bookmobile Service
Shelving and shelf-reading library materials and equipment within the vehicles
Performing induction, sweeping and loading functions associated with the central sorter
Performing other duties, as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent combination of education, training and
experience

Understanding and appreciation of the philosophy of public service to all; in accordance with
human rights legislation and the principles of equity and access in the delivery of library service

Valid Ontario driver's license (Class "D" ) in good standing
Minimum 3 years' experience in driving a commercial vehicle; commercial vehicle weighing over

4,500 kgs. as defined by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation**Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair
Knowledge of City of Toronto traffic rules and regulations
Good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other staff
Ability to perform physical demanding tasks

Ability to do clerical work with accuracy, skill and thoroughness

**Commercial vehicle under the Commercial Vehicle Operator's Registration (CVOR) program
with a valid CVOR certificate.

SALARY:
$27.88 per hour (2023 Rate)
