JOB OVERVIEW
Since 1985, Camp Goodtimes has been committed to providing a camping experience for children affected by cancer.

Camp has grown from assisting 25 children in our first year, to providing a supportive and fun camping experience for almost 600 children and family members each year.


The Clinical Coordinator works a few days a week at the Canadian Cancer Society's Vancouver office to support the overall health and safety of Camp Goodtimes participants, staff and volunteers.

This position is a 13 month contract at.54 FTE.

The Clinical Coordinator's primary role is to work with the Medical Director to health screen all campers and volunteers as well as recruit, train and liaise with the medical team during summer camps as well as for year-round programs.

The Clinical Coordinator will also work with the Medical Director from BC Children's Hospital to review and update medical policies and processes.

The Clinical Coordinator will be accountable for the management of the medical team during camp.

During summer, they will be on-site at camp at least one day a week, where they train the team and the appointed Nurse lead to oversee the day to day operations of the medical team.


WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

OFF SITE Responsibilities

Recruits, trains, and supports the health care staff for camp programs:

  • Recruits & screens health care staff
  • Trains the health care staff, clarifies roles and responsibilities and sets expectations for each team member
  • Liaise with the health care staff and ensures all information and paperwork for participants and health care providers is complete and reviewed. Action plans and emergency plans are prepared and reviewed.
  • Develops schedules for onsite nursing coverage
  • Evaluation: drafts and implements evaluations of health care staff postcamp; reviews results and amends plans for future based on learnings
  • Remains up to date with recent medical procedures, best practices for nursing at camps, any communicable disease outbreaks in the local communities. Liaises with Public Health Officers on an ongoing basis

Assist in the screening of camper/sibling applicants:

  • Communicates with parents and guardians regarding health concerns of campers before, during, and after camp programs

Onsite health care center coordination:

  • Coordinates the inventory, supplies, medication, and equipment this is done in consultation with Medical Director
  • Review daily operating procedures for health care centre (including first aid equipment) emergency response is considered in collaboration with Camp Doctor(s)
  • Establish relationships with community resources (e.g. Pharmacy, EMS, local hospital, laboratory, arranging with local hospital for quick access to emergency services)
  • Review all medical policies with the Medical Director and reach out to Public Health where need be.
  • Health care setup and packup: Before camp, assist with setup of health centre, first aid kits, and emergency equipment; After camp, oversee or delegate the taking of inventory, dismantling, packing, and cleaning of medical equipment, supplies, and health centre

Provide medical-related input in various ways:

  • Maintain and distribute medical-related training materials to volunteers (including health care team members)
  • Facilitate or delegate medicalrelated session(s) at staff training day(s)
  • Review staff health forms
  • Provide feedback in regard to program activities
  • Assist with development and updating of nursing/emergency policies and procedures for, this is undertaken in collaboration with the medical director, CAPOC medical committee members
  • Conduct end of session debrief sessions and contribute to the annual debrief report.

Review, update, and develop policies and procedures for camp programs

  • Medical policies and procedures for onsite, including development of manuals for medical and nonmedical staff and volunteers.
  • Sitebased policies and procedures around risk management, safety, hygiene, medical emergency procedures, and so on. This includes development of procedures for staff to review these standards onsite.
