Position Summary


As Business Development - Building Materials for the South Vancouver Island area, you are responsible to develop new business opportunities for Slegg Building Materials by building your own referral network.

You will be instrumental in driving contract sales by managing relationships with commercial clients, understanding their project needs, and providing tailored building materials solutions.

Your role will involve effective communication, collaboration with external partners, and achieving sales targets.

Slegg Building Materials offers a base salary of $50,000 plus high unlimited commission plan. A company vehicle, cell phone, paid business expenses, and extended health and benefits plan are provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify new sales leads through networking, cold calling, and market research.
  • Proactively develop, maintain, and expand business relationships with customer base.
  • Become a Slegg ambassador in the building community by participating in functions and developing relationships that go beyond the expected.
  • Follow up on leads to grow your business.
  • Participate in sales meetings, sales calls, seminar facilitation, lunch & learns, trade shows, and the development of other sales strategies and initiatives.
  • Conduct proactive sales calls and meetings, closing deals and generating results.
  • Work in collaboration with the purchasing team to quote and win projects.
  • Keep yourself informed of industry developments, market trends, and competitor activities.
  • Respect and obey safety policies and procedures in our yards and on jobsites.
  • All other duties as directed by the General Manager and the Director of Sales.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of previous sales experience building relationships and expanding a customer base.
  • Proven track record of success in business development or sales role in the construction industry.
  • Previous sales experience in building materials industry is an asset.
  • Solid understanding of sales process with the ability to explain that process from identification of opportunity through close of sale.
  • Be a source of knowledge and willing to learn about new building materials.
  • Competitive and entrepreneurial attitude.
  • Effective territory and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, outgoing personality, and willingness to get in front of customers.
  • Able to multitask and prioritize.
  • Available to work a variety of hours.
  • Selfmotivated and detail orientated.
