Adult Learning Instructor

About the Role:

You'll be working on things like:

Service User Support

  • Conduct initial, ongoing and exit educational assessments to determine adult literacy levels, milestones, and goal attainment.
  • Develop individualized learner plans that respond to identified OALCF level, needs for referral, goals, and learning style.
  • Facilitate teaching 1:1 inperson or virtually or, to a group with learning objectives and outcomes based on learner goals, labour market demand, and funder requirements.
  • Select, adapt, and create appropriate learning materials and resources as required that align with individual learner goals and the OALCF principles
  • Utilize a variety of methods, tools, and procedures as determined for assessment and evaluation.
  • Contributes to the program strategy by evaluating service user and program performance management framework on an ongoing basis: participate in developing and implementing program improvements.
  • Communicate effectively with learners and colleagues both verbally and in writing.
  • Shows leadership, and can effectively problem solve and critically think.
  • Complete timely follow up interventions with service users as required.
  • Take initiative and work as part of the JHS Employment and Training Services team.
  • Orient and supervise placement students and volunteers.
  • Meet all performance targets as outlined by agency and funder.

Case Management/Documentation

  • Foster a positive learning environment for service users of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Maintains uptodate case notes, progress reports and service user files with clear rationale for methods and interventions used, and statistical documentation in accordance with the program requirements.
  • Must meet documentation quality standards and provide accurate and timely data entry and filing procedures to program database.
  • Provide relevant instruction based on the Ontario Adult Literacy Curriculum Framework (OALCF) levels 1
  • Able to work in an environment that requires the ability to collect and gather statistical information, meet deadlines and targets.
  • Proficient at collection, data entry into spreadsheets (Excel) and online portals (CaMs)
  • Maintain and complete monthly performance related statistical reports

Community, Administration & Other

  • Work in partnership with LBS community and Employment Service Network to support effective service coordination.
  • Contribute to program marketing/outreach plan and promote JHS training programs in the community.
  • Represent the agency in the community when required
  • Attend workshops, meetings and seminars as requested

If you have the following we want to hear from you

  • Completed post secondary education in Education, Social Services or related field
  • Advanced (postsecondary) level of math, reading, writing, grammar and digital technology skills (i.e excel, word). You will be asked to demonstrate.
  • Sound understanding of Skills for Success and the OALCF framework, i.e. goal paths, competencies, tasks and levels of performance
  • You are a selfstarter
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Solid understanding of group dynamics and ability to motivate others
  • A strong understanding of adult learners' needs and circumstances
  • Facilitation/Instruction, Employment and general counselling experience
  • Extensive knowledge of labour market training opportunities and labour market information and resources
  • Proven experience working with all different demographics of learners, including youth, newcomers, internationally trained professionals, newcomers, OW, EI and ODSP recipients, individuals experiencing long term unemployment and differently abled persons.
  • Strong case management assessment skills
  • Able to take initiative and work as part of a team
  • Knowledge of services related to adult literacy
  • Understanding and knowledge of learning styles
  • Familiar with learning disabilities and their impact on learning
  • Experienced in using Zoom to host/cohost meetings, including using polls, breakout rooms, annotation mode
  • Strong knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Hootsuite and Wordpress
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
