Are you someone who loves to facilitate or host, is interested in community engagement and development, has experience working with volunteers and with volunteer/donor stewardship and relationship building, has experience in event planning or management, and understands the value of volunteerism within the community and non-profit sector?


This role leads a variety of volunteer engagement programs and activities that strengthen the volunteer experience and promote increased opportunities for customer engagement.

With a strong project-focus, this role includes being responsible for a number of deliverables related to volunteer management for Poverty Simulations, supporting enhanced growth of Cabinet and executing Cabinet Plan objectives, overseeing volunteer data management across the organization to support advanced volunteer data analytics that will steer our work, and delivering on volunteer recognition strategies for 1,500+ volunteers.

Other tasks include stewarding relationships with existing and prospective volunteers and supporting general volunteer-related initiatives such as community events in support of our programs and product drives and major events.

This position reports to the Program Manager, Volunteer Engagement.

About the Role

  • Coordinates and delivers elements of the Volunteer Recognition Strategy and orgwide volunteer appreciation
  • Collaborates with Product and Marketing teams to oversee the volunteer management and event coordination of volunteerled community/public events.
  • Actively pursues opportunities that highlight and showcase United Way's volunteer engagement offerings and coordinate efforts for participation in local community volunteer events and fairs to support recruitment strategies, organizational needs, and increase brand awareness.
  • Organizes and delivers all aspects of the Mentoring For Success program for Sponsored Campaign Representatives.
  • Coordinates and leads volunteers for 15+ Poverty Simulation events each year.
  • Responsible for recruiting and maintaining a roster of Poverty Simulation Event Volunteers.
  • Stewards relationships with all onetime volunteers (account events) and ongoing Poverty Simulation Event Team roster (40+).
  • Coordinates all Poverty Simulation Kit Rebuild volunteer shifts and leads volunteers in reassembling kits in preparation for the next Poverty Simulation event.
  • Works alongside Engagement Facilitation to support ongoing plans for future poverty simulations, accommodate customers & requests, and support annual planning & goals.
  • Facilitates Cabinet engagement through key functions including communications, engagement events planning and support, and meetings support & hosting.
  • Support the Program Manager, Volunteer Engagement and VP, Donor Relations & Resource Development in delivery of objective tactics within the Cabinet Plan (3year strategy).
  • Builds relationships with Cabinet members in support of their volunteer experience and relationship with United Way.
  • Oversee orgwide volunteer data management and collection practices by working with staff across various volunteer segments and roles to effectively collect data related to volunteers including contact information, roles/participation, volunteer hours, and shifts.
  • Collaborate with the Data Analytics Team and Information Services to maintain and prepare data and reports related to volunteer analytics and metrics requirements and needs established by Program Manager, Volunteer Engagement.

About you
You have amazing writing and verbal communication skills and database skills and would describe yourself as friendly, warm, energetic, enjoys public speaking, and is engaging


You have a post-secondary degree or diploma in Business, Social Sciences or related field, and a minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of related experience, providing exceptional customer service and administrative support.

A combination of education and experience will be considered.


A valid driver's license and vehicle are required as travel will be involved within Edmonton and surrounding area and you have flexibility to work some evenings and weekends depending on the events and meetings that are going on.
