Organization Summary
CMHA-Edmonton is a non-profit organization whose mission is to ensure that all people experience good mental health and well-being. We increase awareness and understanding of mental health, mental illness, recovery, and suicide prevention through education.

We support the resilience and recovery of people in distress including those affected by mental illness or suicide by providing crisis intervention; safe, long-term and affordable housing; peer support; suicide grief and family support; information and referral support; and providing opportunities to improve your wellness.


Job Summary


Reporting to the Senior Director, Programs and Operations, the Manager, Community Engagement leads CMHA Edmonton's community engagement program, including volunteer management and involvement, event organization, community event support and participation, and program participation and engagement.


Job Duties and Responsibilities

Community Engagement

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with community members, agencies and stakeholders to support CMHA Edmonton's mission.
  • Identify opportunities in the community for CMHA Edmonton partnerships and awareness.
  • Ensure appropriate CMHA Edmonton support and where requested involvement for community fundraising initiatives, such as gaming and thirdparty fundraisers.

Volunteer Engagement

  • Working with and supervising the Volunteer Coordinator, ensure a meaningful experience for both ongoing and shortterm volunteer opportunities.
  • Identify and build volunteer opportunities for individuals and community groups, such as corporate volunteering opportunities.

Agency Events and Programs

  • Working with and supervising the Engagement and Events Coordinator, support the organizing and implementation of agency events, both signature fundraising events and program and awareness events.
  • Support program and event participation through outreach to relevant community groups.
  • Design direct to participant outreach activities consistent with organizational priorities and effective at reaching diverse audiences.

Membership and Member Engagement

  • Oversee the agency's membership program, including:
  • Ensuring prompt acknowledgement of new membership purchases.
  • Ensuring annual renewal reminders are delivered in a timely manner.
  • Being a point of contact for members and ensuring communication and engagement on a regular schedule.
  • Engaging members in CMHA Edmonton events, programs, and initiatives including the Annual General Meeting.

Managerial and Administration

  • Supervise, train, and lead program staff, currently two direct reports:
  • Engagement & Events Coordinator
  • Volunteer Coordinator
  • Prepare accurate budgets and forecasts.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing program operational and quality assurance plans.
  • As a member of the organization's management team, contribute to the overall strategic direction, stewardship, and management of CMHA Edmonton.

  • Creates buyin and excitement for the agency's work among staff, volunteers, and external stakeholders.
  • Identifies strategic opportunities to increase engagement.
  • Works with, and where appropriate oversees, the work of vendors, consultants, and other contractors.
  • Draws on market research, demographic data, program data, and other sources to identify trends, opportunities, and risks in community engagement to support CMHA Edmonton's mission and programs.
  • Takes steps to identify, mitigate, and address any potential risks real or perceived to the agency, its events, and other work.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Postsecondary degree or diploma, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 35 years of experience in a community or public engagement role with demonstrated success in:
  • Building and managing successful relationships with diverse groups.
  • Increasing awareness with different audiences.
  • Engaging persons with lived experience in programs and initiatives.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License.
  • Acceptable Police Information Check.
