The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is the statutory body responsible for regulating Ontario's capital markets in accordance with the mandate established in the provincial Securities Act and the Commodity Futures Act.

The mandate of the OSC is to provide protection to investors from unfair, improper or fraudulent practices, to foster fair, efficient and competitive capital markets and confidence in the capital markets, to foster capital formation, and to contribute to the stability of the financial system and the reduction of systemic risk.

This mandate is performed through policy, operational, adjudication and enforcement work. The OSC also contributes to national and global securities regulation development.

  • Our Human Resources Branch provides the OSC with strategic and operational advice and services on the planning, acquisition and development of OSC talent, total compensation planning and administration, performance management and overall organizational development.
The Branch is comprised of the following business units:

Human Resources and Organizational Development; Business Planning & Reporting; Administration; Knowledge Services; Records & Information Management; and Inclusion & Diversity.


  • Overview: As a Human Resources Summer Student in the HR Advisory Branch, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the HR team in various functions including recruitment, onboarding, policy maintenance, special projects, and administrative tasks. This position offers a valuable opportunity to gain handson experience in a dynamic HR environment and contribute to the success of the organization.

What you will be doing:
Recruitment Support- Collaborate with HR team to understand staffing needs and help where necessary.- Onboarding Assistance- Coordinate new hire orientation sessions and prepare onboarding materials. Assist in the completion of new hire paperwork and facilitate the setup of employee profiles.
Policy Maintenance- Assist in the review and update of HR policies and procedures in accordance with legislative changes and best practices. Conduct research on HR-related topics to support policy development and implementation.
Special Projects- Contribute to various HR initiatives and projects such as employee engagement surveys, diversity and inclusion programs, and training initiatives. Collect and analyze data to support project objectives and provide insights to the HR team.
Administrative Tasks- Assist with the Digitization of employee files. Provide administrative support to the HR team including organizing files, preparing documents, and scheduling meetings. Assist with maintaining employee records and databases, ensuring confidentiality and data integrity

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a degree or post Graduate Diploma/Certificate in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Detailoriented with a high level of accuracy in data entry and recordkeeping.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiarity with HRIS/ATS systems is preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Have knowledge of employment legislation, HR best practices, and current developments.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze and disseminate important information with attention to detail, accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Excellent presentation skills, problem solving and strategic thinking skills
