Human Resources Coordinator - The Westin Nova Scotian


You are friendly, organized and like to be a team player, helping to keep the property managers on track while adding value to the employee experience.

You have a strong desire to learn and support everything HR and your confidential nature makes you a great go-to person for the team.

This is a full-time permanent role based on-site which provides the opportunity for daily interaction with our diverse and engaging staff team.

In the role of
Human Resources Coordinator, you will:


Be a People Person:
you will have experience with activities such as recruiting, onboarding, giving assistance to team members, engaging in projects.

Be a Culture Champion:
You are the face of the HR Team, and the first point of contact for new employees.

Leading onboarding sessions & while striving for continuous improvements within that process, attending JOHSC meetings, and ensuring that all current materials and meeting minutes are posted on the bulletin board.

Assisting with the facilitation of HR activities —particularly championing initiatives to promote diversity and inclusion at the workplace.

Social by Nature:
You like to participate in social committee event planning and other efforts as a social committee member. In addition, you assist with facilitating employee engagement and recognition program processes.

Safety-minded:You understand the importance of safety in the workplace, attend JOHSC meetings, and ensure that all current materials and meeting minutes are posted on the bulletin board.

Requirements:

Primary Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • First point of contact in the HR office: knowledgeable in daytoday HR & union matters
  • Ownership of administrative tasks, including (not limited to): managing & maintaining employee files, monthly reporting & tracking for the department, maintaining current records for valid work permits, certifications, etc. and provides administrative support to both the HR & Payroll Manager and the Director of Human Resources
  • Responsible for HR advertisements & communications to staff
  • Administrator for linelevel recruitment process; including requisition tracking, job postings, and in some cases, prescreening phone interviews and reference checks
  • Attends job fairs as a representative of the Westin Nova Scotian team
  • Leads & coordinates onboarding meetings with new employees; and enters new hire details into HRIS
  • Administrator of the AIP process & the point of contact for all initial employee AIP queries; manages documentation for this process
  • Support the biweekly payroll process; prepping daily timecards and assisting the HR & Payroll Manager where needed with administrative payroll tasks
  • Keep all job descriptions and postings updated and in brand standard
  • Lead by example: help to ensure that the company HR operational policies and processes are adhered to
  • Assist the HR & Payroll Manager with planning, coordinating, and executing employee activities and events, including quarterly employee meetings & info sessions, and all monthly employee engagement activities, and any social events
  • Active member & cochair of the Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee
  • Coordinate the administration of the Hotel's staff recognition programs

Qualifications & Requirements

  • At least two years of progressive experience in a hotel HR department or related field is required.
  • Completion of a Human Resource designation program is preferred with college course work in a relevant field helpful.
  • Minimum 1 year payroll experience required.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment considered a strong asset.
  • Verbal and written English language proficiency is required, with a second language helpful.
