Working Business Language: Bilingual in French and English. This role is considered a head office role and requires regular interaction with internal and external stakeholders across Canada where the business languages utilized are both English and French. As such, the successful candidate must be fully proficient in English and French.
Salary: At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. The role of Senior Translation Services Specialist has responsibility for the oversight of Wawanesa's corporate French translation services program. As the sole translation services team member this role supports the business by liaising with our external translation vendor to ensure quality and timely translation services for the organization ensuring tone of voice is consistent through translated materials. Working under minimal supervision, this role provides guidance on French language requirements, responds to translation-related inquiries, and collaborates with internal business partners to integrate translation solutions for projects and initiatives.
This position is based in our Montreal Region Office and reports to the Manager, Communications located in Winnipeg, MB.
Job Responsabilities
- Oversee Wawanesa's French translation services program to meet the evolving needs of the business in Canada including developing processes related to translation service requirements and offerings.
- Facilitate and strengthen the relationship with our external translation vendor who provides French translation for the company, to ensure the delivery of high-quality translation that arrives on time, including tracking status, progress of translation requests, spot-check proofreading and monitoring overall client satisfaction.
- Support the Communications team with day-to-day French translation communication needs including review and editing of translated materials.
- Work with internal departments to understand translation needs and serve as a resource to provide guidance regarding legal language requirements, accurately adhering to all compliance regulations and legal requirements (including Quebec Language Laws).
- Review and monitor translation vendor invoices and develop regular reporting of translation volume and spend.
- Work with internal subject matter experts and our translation vendor to develop glossaries and terminology databases, ensuring quality and consistency in translated material.
- Serve as the primary contact for French translation inquiries for the organization.
- Provide linguistic support and service to the VP, Quebec as required, including on-site support for employee events for our Quebec employees.
- Translate urgent communications on an ad-hoc basis.
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Post-secondary degree in French language studies, English to French translation, or equivalent.
- Minimum of five years of translation experience or translation services program oversight in a corporate environment.
- Complete fluency and proven communications skills in both English and French with excellent command of the English and French language, both written and spoken.
- OTTIAQ accreditation is an asset.
- Translation experience in the insurance industry is an asset.
- Experience in overseeing and coordinating partnerships / agreements / contracts with translation vendors and/or translators.
- Highly developed skills in terminology research.
- Experience using memoQ software to maintain the organization's translation memory / glossary
- High degree of accuracy and strong attention to detail.
- Superior organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- Self-motivated individual with the ability work independently or as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to build relationships internally and externally.
- Strong working knowledge with MS Office applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
