Job Purpose:


The GFP&A group is responsible for the development of All Bank P&L forecasts, financial metrics, as well as asset and liability growth and wholesale funding utilization by business line for quarter-end reporting, quarterly forecast update, regular weekly/monthly updates, annual Planning, 3 Year Strategic Planning, annual stress testing program and other ad hoc requests from senior management.

The Manager, Balance Sheet Analysis and Forecasting has primary responsibility for balance sheet analysis, reporting and forecast at the All-Bank level, and leading all aspects of USD corporate position reporting.

This includes quarterly Bluebook reporting, forecast updates, FX impact analysis and preparing the quarter-end Bank Corporate Position report and an 8-quarter rolling USD Corporate Position earnings forecast, delivering to Group Treasury and Senior Management.

The role requires managing and making recommendations on changes to the methodological framework on which USD corporate position is based, model enhancement/development to ensure all reporting requirements are maintained in sync with the framework, reporting as appropriate to senior Finance and Treasury management, and liaising with business line Finance teams as well as senior Treasury management on reporting issues.

The position requires strong organization and spreadsheet modelling skills as well as highly developed analytical and quantitative skills.

The incumbent will also participate in various other profit planning and forecast responsibilities and other ad hoc analysis as required from time to time.

The incumbent must maintain strong and supportive relationships with key Treasury and business line management personnel, ensure smooth, timely and relevant changes to forecast models, present information clearly and concisely and prepare regular accurate reporting under tight deadlines.


Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Provide leadership in the development, reporting and analysis of the Bank's USD corporate position; assess requirements for changes to the USD corporate position, including forecast and reporting methodologies and procedures, the process for collection of data, and execution of appropriate maintenance/enhancement of models to improve reporting.
  • Liaise with management to identify areas of improvement as well as opportunities where foreign exchange P&L impact can be reduced.
  • Provide recommendations to senior management on improvement opportunities and to help achieve key Bank performance targets.
  • Download actual and forecast balance sheet data from financial reporting systems and/or excel spreadsheets into the USD corporate position model, execute reconciliation process and complete all reporting requirements.

Process is undertaken for the following:
quarter-end actual reporting, post quarter-end forecast updates, annual profit plan, and occasional ad hoc requests.

  • Provide the Bank's USD revenue forecast to Group Treasury for hedge designation purposes.
  • Provide periodic updates to Group Treasury on changes to the USD corporate position based on new available information. Report the quarterend USD corporate position exposure limit utilization to Global Risk and Senior Management.
  • Complete All Bank balance sheet analysis for quarterly Bluebook reporting, as well as other trend analysis and All Bank balance sheet forecast assessment; and with FX impact analysis
  • Assist as required from time to time in the maintenance of business line forecast reporting models Other Ad hoc reporting and analysis as required.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for preparation of material to Executive.
  • Thorough understanding of management and financial accounting concepts
  • Good knowledge of components of the balance sheet
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately to meet tight deadlines and to function with autonomy.
  • Strong organization and spreadsheet skills with good knowledge of Excel, Word and Powerpoint.
  • A post secondary business or finance degree such as a B. Comm, or an accounting designation and/or enrollment in an MBA, Masters of Finance or CFA/CMA program and minimum 23 years banking experience.
