BDx ENVIRO (Part of the BioScision Group of Companies) is seeking an Analytical Chemist to join the team.

BDx ENVIRO is a private testing Biosafety Level 2 laboratory located in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Modelled from a "One Health" perspective, BDx ENVIRO performs environmental, animal, and human diagnostic testing for several small to large entities.

The job entails processing and analyzing samples from a variety of matrices for metal content, anions, cations, and other chemical and physical characteristics.

BDx ENVIRO is in the process of attaining ISO 17025 accreditation.


The Analytical Chemist will have expertise in chemistry and analytical sciences as they pertain to the operation and maintenance of an ICP-MS, IC, and other basic chemistry equipment and assays.

Experience in method development, method validation, equipment troubleshooting/preventative maintenance, and optimization are essential assets.

Reporting and Supervision

  • This position works as part of the laboratory management team
  • This position reports to the Head of Laboratories and the Chief Science Officer

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform technical roles during routine sample processing
  • Review and report daily sample results, conduct outofspecification investigations
  • Writing, revising, training and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Perform assay development, optimization, validation and troubleshooting
  • Perform equipment calibrations, maintenance and documentation
  • Assist in attaining additional laboratory accreditations (ISO 17025)
  • Ensure that safety guidelines (WHMIS and Biological Safety) are followed at all times
  • Operate with respect to the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) and company/client privacy policies
  • Other duties as required/assigned

General laboratory duties

  • Maintain laboratory records and inventory
  • Preparation of chemicals and reagents as required
  • Maintain a clean workstation
  • Daily/Weekly laboratory cleaning duties
  • Wash laboratory glassware and tools
  • Organize and store all chemicals and reagents accordingly
  • General and chemical waste disposal
  • Other duties as required/assigned

Requirements:

  • Graduate Degree in a Chemistryrelated program with at least 3 years previous industry experience or nongraduate diploma with at least 7 years previous industry experience.
  • Extensive Experience in Analytical Chemistry
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced environment and adapt to changing priorities
  • Strong attention to detail and problemsolving skills
  • Excellent manual dexterity and ability to stand for long periods of time in the laboratory
  • Maintain confidentiality with all information entrusted to the position (PHIA/privacy policies)
  • Must successfully complete WHMIS training
  • A criminal record check will be performed

Compensation

  • Fulltime position
  • Starting wage is based on education and experience

$22.00-$26.00 per hour
