Nanaimo Youth Services is not for profit organization that provides wrap around services and opportunities for youth to gain life and employment skills and assists them to reach their full potential.

NYSA also provides transitional and affordable housing for youth aged 16 to 30.

  • Reporting to the CAO of the Nanaimo Youth Services Association (NYSA) _through _the Program Director of the _DiverseFutures _(DF) program, this position with educator, support and strategic responsibilities will:
  • Engage with the DF Program Director in administrative and general research activities.
  • Engage with the DF Program Director on programrelated training activities, including:
  • design, develop and facilitate industry, career and soft-skills training;
- at NYSA's expense, if necessary, enroll in and successfully earn certifications from industry based train-the-trainer programs related to: FoodSafe, Personality Dimensions, Serving it Right, SuperHost, and others.

  • Provide ongoing administrative support to the DF program and its Program Director, including:
  • draft or respond to correspondence (whether in paper or electronic form);
- schedule activities, including with youth for both interviews and with external service providers;
- support the design and development of the DF skills training calendar including contacting prospective workshop facilitators / trainers, negotiating their fees, and confirming their availability in a contractual writing style;
- budgetary support, including calculate and tabulate financial statements, and presenting them in Excel spreadsheets;
- recraft documentation of the program per intake to align it with adjusted particulars and dates;
- support to create, design, and produce ads and marketing flyers and communications materials to promote the program, including for online (e.g. social media, Craigslist, Kijiji, Indeed, UsedNanaimo, other) and public (outdoor) posting;
- as requested, provide supports during the intake interview process for the DF program;
- data entry into the GCOS online client management system of the Government of Canada;
- support the development and preparation of regular status reports on the program;
- support and maintain the filing system (paper and electronic) for the DF program, and maintain the confidentiality of these files;
- support the collection and tabulation of program statistics on all participants, as aligned with metrics agreed to with the program funder;
- as requested, offer administrative support to the program's Job Coach and/or Program Manager, including in liaising and engaging with existing or prospective employers of program youth;
- develop working relationships with program youth and work with them in areas of motivation, attendance, discipline and inspiration through re-framing, honest communication, empathy and self
- understanding; and
- participate in organizational strategy, planning and co-ordination meetings.

  • Engage in _general _research activities for the DF program, including:
  • conduct online (e.g. searches of web-based resources) and paper-based research;
- review and analyze program files and documents to help compile and prepare program reports; and
- conduct labour market analysis and develop related backgrounder documents.

  • Interact with community partners (NGOS, business, government) and the general public to market and network for the DF program, and to promote NYSA feeforservice public trainings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Postsecondary education in an area related to NYSA's training operations (e.g. Career Development, Counselling, Education, Social Sciences, or related field), or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Experience as an adult educator and/or in workshop development, design, training and facilitation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Teams & dataentry skills.
  • Approachable, openminded and selfaware when communicating with youth while maintaining a professional demeanour in oneonone and group settings including in difficult situations.
  • Professional, adaptable, flexible, & outgoing personality with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with youth from or with diverse backgrounds or cultures or identifications, wide points of view, or from marginalized or vulnerable populations, and to engage with respect and without judgment.
  • Cultural sensitivity and an awareness of reconciliation with Canada's Indigenous Peoples.
  • Ability to create, compose and edit written materials with an eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Selfmotivated, able to work independently and as a team player, show initiative and take responsibility.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Occasional evening and Saturday work may be required.
