About this Opportunity

Health Sciences Library has played a central role in supporting health research and promoting student learning for more than 50 years.

Our commitment to lifelong and interdisciplinary learning has allowed us to build one of the most sought-after learning and collaboration spaces on campus.


This role is responsible for cultivating relationships with educational programs and colleagues working in the field of health sciences at McMaster and delivering educational initiatives within the Health Sciences Library.

Maintaining connections with faculty, students, and other key stakeholders, information literacy curriculum planning, and training are key components of the position.

The incumbent partners with various educational programs within the Faculty of Health Sciences and collaborates with Health Sciences Library colleagues and the University Library in initiatives designed to promote learner success.

Their work will be situated within varying research methodologies and learner contexts, including distributed learning environments. The incumbent will collaborate on special projects, including needs assessments and program evaluation. The incumbent serves on the Health Sciences Library Management Committee and contributes to the overall planning of library services.


This position will work across various health disciplines in close collaboration with other colleagues involved in the teaching and learning programs.


Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with other librarians, faculty, researchers, and staff to create and deliver inperson and virtual information literacy education to support curriculum goals and enhance student success
  • Works with instructors to connect information literacy with curriculum and accreditation requirements between and across courses and health disciplines
  • Incorporates sound pedagogical practices while creating innovative instructional materials to support user learning needs
  • Identifies learner needs and develops and maintains learning objects
  • Provides indepth research consultations to students, faculty, and staff
  • Participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of projects
  • Contributes to overall collection development in the HSL, identifying resources to support clinical learning
  • Works closely with relevant stakeholders in the University Library
  • Occasionally works evenings and weekends
  • Travels to hospitals and other teaching sites as required

    MUALA Collective Agreement.

Requirements:

  • ALAaccredited Master of Library & Information Science degree or equivalent
  • 13 years of relevant experience
  • Experience and demonstrated effectiveness in managing projects
  • Understanding of information literacy competencies in higher education, including current and emerging trends in information literacy theory, such as critical information literacy and metaliteracy.
