Unit Summary

Cward is an active Medical Unit. B Ward provides Rehab and Palliative Care. Care is provided through a multidisciplinary team consisting of nurses, physicians, dietitian, therapeutic recreation, occupational therapy and physiotherapy. The philosophy of care is applied in a senior friendly care environment. The unit is supported by a team of Allied Health Staff, Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, Clinical Education and Development, and support staff. A primary care physician model working together with the interdisciplinary team providing care to acutely ill patients, primarily geriatric population, including patients with multi system chronic illnesses.

Position Summary

As a member of the health care team at West Lincoln Memorial, the HCA will support the care of Medical and Rehab patients at WLMH. The HCA will provide clinical support. Functions according to the job description of the Healthcare Aides.

Schedule Work Hours

days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays

Qualifications

1. Personal Support Worker or Healthcare Aide Certificate or nursing student with successful completion of all level 2
courses at McMaster University or nursing student with successful completion of all level 2 courses in the McMaster-
Mohawk-Conestoga collaborative nursing program
2. Computer familiarity or willingness to learn computer skills as required
3. Demonstrated effective communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, teamwork skills
4. Demonstrated initiative and judgement appropriate for the position
5. Ability to accept assigned or delegated functions
6. Ability to set priorities and organize work accordingly
7. Ability to deal with various hospital departments effectively and collaboratively
8. Ability to lift using appropriate lifting techniques and bend, push and pull using good body mechanics
