Drop-in Support Worker

Part-time, Permanent (15 hrs. /wk.)**

ABOUT THE STOP:

The Opportunity:


Reporting to the Community Services & Operations Manager, The Drop-in Support Worker will play a vital role in assisting with the organization, coordination, and delivery of our drop-in meals program, which aims to provide nutritious meals and a welcoming environment to individuals in need within our community.

Working in collaboration with a team, you will contribute to fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere, through offering respectful, dignified services in The Stop's Wychwood Open Door Drop-in program, ensuring the success and impact of our program.

This is a permanent, part-time position for 15-hours per week. This position collaborates with a team of Stop staff, volunteers and agency partners to deliver the Drop-in program activities.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the Dropin space is safe, welcoming and inclusive to community members.
  • Ability to take the lead in the Dropin services in the absence of drop in engagement worker i.e. provide support and direction to relief staff members.
  • Provide direction and support to volunteers in their role and responsibilities.
  • Identify, intervene and effectively deal with emergency, crisis and conflict situations.
  • Coordinate with the dropin engagement worker the setup of program space for meal services including breakfast preparation.
  • Work in collaboration with team members at both Stop dropins to ensure consistent services and activities.
  • Refer program participants to appropriate Stop services.
  • Ensure and direct the proper set up and tear down of the program services.
  • Maintain administrative records, as required
  • Other related duties as assigned

General:

  • Ensure that Dropin programming reflects The Stop's policies and procedures (e.g. Anti-Discrimination/Anti-Harassment).
  • Provide programming and support within a lowbarrier, harm reduction, trauma informed framework.
  • Attend monthly allstaff meetings, and other meetings related to the role and responsibilities, as required.
  • Participate in agencywide events, as needed
  • Participate in training opportunities, as required.
  • Maintain knowledge of existing agency and program policies and procedures and implement them consistently
  • Ability to work constructively as a member of a team in a fastpaced, dynamic environment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Educational background in social work/social services/human services work or equivalent education and lived experience.
  • Minimum of 12 years of consistent frontline work in community services.
  • Understanding of and experience working in programs serving participants with complex needs including homelessness, mental health issues, addictions and histories of trauma.
  • Excellent interpersonal / communications skills and ability to build effective relationships.
  • Strong listening skills required
  • Crisis intervention, deescalation skills essential.
  • Computer skills with programs such as Word, Excel, Email, OneDrive
  • Additional languages besides English is an asset.

Salary:
$24.67
/hr**
