The opportunity:

The University of Manitoba is looking for a Administrative Assistant.

This position will be responsible for performing all financial responsibilities related to budgets, grants, capital expenditures, infrastructure projects, procurement, payroll, travel, and financial services.

The Administrative Assistant will also reconcile monthly general ledgers and accounts receivable reports for all funds.

The qualifications and experience we're looking for:

  • An undergraduate degree in a related area of discipline plus enrolment in the final years of a professional accounting program is required.
  • A professional accounting designation (CPA) is preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of directly related experience in financial management, human resource management and office administration functions required.
  • Experience working with large public institutions and with strategic planning frameworks preferred.
  • Working knowledge of institutional policies & procedures as well as collective agreements is preferred.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must have excellent financial and budget management skills related to multidisciplinary research and operating funds.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook is required.
  • Experience using online financial management, HR management systems, travel & expense claim, and purchasing systems is essential.
  • Strong managerial and leadership skills exercising good judgement, tack and diplomacy required.
  • Effective time management, decision making, problem solving, and organizational skills are required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Must have the ability to maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff, students, and the public in a professional and tactful manner.
  • Ability to train, supervise, delegate work both independently and in a team environment are necessary.
  • Must be able to work with a high degree of initiative and accept responsibility in managing administrative functions of a department.
  • Must be able to set priorities, multitask, and work effectively under pressure and constraints with a high degree of accuracy.
  • The ability to contribute to a highly productive teamwork environment and the ability to complete a heavy workload adhering to tight deadlines is required.
  • Ability to adapt and devise new procedures and approaches for meeting the needs of a changing environment preferred.
  • Ability to use and troubleshoot general office equipment would be an asset.
  • Availability and flexibility to work overtime at peak times required.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
