The People & Culture Department provides strategic human resources services and support for the entire campus. We are a fun, supportive and collegial team, with sixteen full-time members.

Thompson Rivers University is located in Kamloops, British Columbia.

Life in the sunny interior of British Columbia provides immediate access to some of the most incredible outdoor experiences Canada has to offer ranging from winter sports at Sun Peaks Resort, to some of Canada's best mountain biking and hiking trails, walking distance from TRU.

Located between the coastal and Rocky Mountains, Kamloops is within 30 minutes from hundreds of beautiful freshwater lakes, and only 3 hours from Vancouver.

With a relatively mild winter and spectacularly warm and dry summers, Kamloops offers a high quality of life.

A city with less than 100,000 residents, it is served by an airport, a hospital, a university, a WHL hockey team and yet still maintains a small-town feel where one never commutes longer than 10 minutes.

It is a safe community to raise a family with reasonable housing prices.


As the first point of contact, the People and Culture Consultant provides comprehensive strategic and operational advice, guidance, and support to Managers, Deans, Directors and VPs and their respective departments and faculties across campus, in all facets of People and Culture.

The Consultant also collaborates to develop and implement best practice programs, policies and systems that support the University's leaders and managers by providing a high-level of service and Human Resource management knowledge and expertise in the areas of recruitment and selection, employee and labour relations, investigations (i.e., harassment, discrimination, professional misconduct, conflict of interest), performance management, organizational development, support staff job evaluation and faculty salary placement.

The key to the success of the People and Culture Consultant attaining their intended outcomes is their ability to develop strategic partnerships, understanding the key challenges of the departments and/or faculties and providing coaching and advice based on HR best practice within their assigned portfolios.

The People and Culture Consultant will operate with considerable independence, while exercising discretion, and initiative.
