Reporting to the Director, Canadian Secured Lending and Small Business Credit Risk, the Senior Manager will work closely with a diverse set of stakeholders to generate insights and deliver judicious recommendations. The incumbent will drive analyses, oversight, and judicious thought leadership for Mortgage and HELOC Portfolios, ensuring business strategies, plans, and initiatives are assisted in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead sensitivity analyses to evaluate performance benchmarks against various environmental trends; develop scenario frameworks and readiness playbooks by identifying and prioritizing levers.
  • Measure and monitor policy changes across the credit life cycle (adjudication, customer management, and collections) with a focus on credit performance; assist various teams in development and adjustments to policy through insightful observations.
  • Monitor RESL portfolio indicators, proactively assessing performance alongside macro-economic and external trends.
  • Senior Executive support for performance trending across portfolios and preparation of insightful communication materials.
  • Triangulate internal data analyses with macro-economic and consumer trend reports to identify customer vulnerability; maintain an integrated set of performance benchmarks to continuously monitor segment performance.
  • Lead GRM colleagues to enhance portfolio monitoring and account management capabilities through integration of new models and frameworks.
  • Support annual planning process through insightful leadership on implications to KPIs and risk-related metrics, based on business objectives and growth plans.
  • Prepare in-depth analyses on key segments within the RESL portfolio, provisioning, and peer trends.
  • Direct day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank's risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Socialize the Bank's risk culture and risk appetite statement.

Job Requirements:

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to create and interpret information/data required to monitor the performance of credit portfolios are essential. Demonstrated experience with data analysis and advanced Excel, SAS, and SQL skills.
  • University degree in mathematics, business, or economics
  • 5-7 years of relevant work experience
  • Expertise and thorough understanding of credit and portfolio management, mortgage underwriting, and credit analytics.
  • In-depth understanding of: i) RESL products, systems, and channels, and the markets in which Scotiabank operates; ii) Bank's credit risk policy and risk appetite framework; iii) retail lending process and applications; and iv) legislative and marketplace issues relative to credit risk management.
  • Strong financial skills, solid deductive reasoning, sound judgment, and creativity.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively convey information to various levels of management.
  • Knowledge of credit risk management origination techniques and strategies in Retail credit, including the creation of champion/challenger tests and risk strategies utilizing credit risk scores.
