What you'd be responsible for

  • Supporting the GIS training strategy by maintaining a content library of procedures to support all activities related to database analysis and adhoc mapping.
  • Maintaining a library of data extraction processes that are used to compile spatial data from a variety of sources that are used to support geospatial analysis and web based mapping development.
  • Providing higherlevel technical expertise in the maintenance and analysis of spatial data, this includes ensuring that data recording, extraction and analysis is completed within established timelines and align to recording rules that maintain data validity, accuracy and referential integrity.
  • Managing daily schedules and tasks associated with defined scoped projects including assigning tasks, assisting colleagues to resolve problems, monitoring task implementation through completion within the limits prescribed by management.
  • Accessing, converting and transforming spatial datasets to update existing information, derive new information or investigate and discover patterns and trends. Execute database queries to support decision making across Water Services.
  • Developing and implementing a schedule to systematically correct legacy database errors and discrepancies
  • Working with functional areas across Water Services to gather, document and act on requirements that will support the establishment of GIS as an enabling technology to support Water Services' strategic plans toward Utility of the Future.
  • Identifying gaps, errors or inadequacies in existing business process and making recommendations for improvement to the Manager, Visualization & Support.
  • Designing digital maps with geographic data; creating shape files to merge topographic data with other internal and external data by layering data over topographical maps
  • Demonstrates a high performance, high discipline, safe, accountable, focused, innovative and achievementoriented, easy to do business with manner of working

What's required to be successful

  • Completion of an Advanced Diploma in GIS, or a related field from a recognized postsecondary educational institute. _(A combination of a completed postsecondary diploma in another field and experience may be considered.)_
  • 7 or more years of experience using:
  • FME to access, convert and transform spatial datasets to update existing information, derive new information or investigate patterns
  • Geospatial tools and data to analyze and manipulate spatial data to produce maps and reports
  • Strong knowledge of relational database model concepts and fundamental GIS and GIS principles
  • Strong knowledge and experience:
  • Working with SQL in Oracle databases to manipulate content that can be used to support decision making in Water Services
  • Experience developing and delivering GIS training to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Experience and/or skills using MicroStation, MapInfo, Power BI, or Python are valuable assets to have.
