SCOPE:

The
Maintenance Worker will provide support to the Operations Department with facility maintenance. The incumbent is responsible for assisting with the upkeep and repair of ONWA facilities.

This position reports to the Manager of Operations and will work in tandem with the Maintenance Coordinator and other members of the Operations team to support all facilities across the province.

This role includes a mix of preventative measures, routine maintenance, yard maintenance, and backup support for cleaning services. The incumbent will perform general office duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful completion of Certificate in Facilities Management, Operations Management, Construction Management, Business, and/or a relevant trade certificate.
  • 3 years' working experience providing facility maintenance with a general knowledge and skill level for carpentry, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and HVAC systems; knowing when to call on a licensed professional with proper expertise when needed.
  • Basic skills with fire protection alarm systems, and administrative skills, sufficient to perform monthly testing on related systems.
  • Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) sufficient to interpret MSD sheets when working with janitorial chemicals.
  • Ability to understand and interpret the Occupational Health & Safety Act sufficient to identify hazards within the workplace and take corrective action to mitigate risk to staff and property as needed.
  • Skills in general construction sufficient to complete basic carpentry, painting, drywall installation & repairs.
  • Safe operating procedures for lawn care, snow removal equipment, and power tools etc.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Experience in contributing to the development of processes.
  • Excellent relationship building skills with the ability to maintain positive relationships with local service agencies.
  • Knowledge of and connection to Indigenous service agencies in the location of service delivery.
  • Ability to network with other community agencies/services/organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience providing services to Indigenous families and communities.
  • Must be dependable, able to follow instructions, respond to management direction and be able to improve performance through management feedback.
  • Capacity to solve problems and to see different perspectives.
  • Ability to plan, organize and manage time
  • Highly motivated individual with the ability to work with mínimal
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills and an ability to follow through on assigned duties independently with strict deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Not-For Profit Organizations
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Software, Maintenance Ticketing systems, and general office equipment.
  • Ability to speak an Indigenous Language is considered an asset.
  • Valid G Class Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance.
  • Current, valid vulnerable sector criminal records check.
  • Cellular phone and internet access are required for this position.
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible working from home arrangement if required. This may include a combination of virtual remote work in your home and in office arrangements. This will be based on operational needs and will be determined by the ONWA.
