An opening exists in the Trade Division for the position of Sales Manager, Independent, Library and Special Sales reporting to the Vice President, Trade.

Work Location: This position works out of our Toronto downtown office located at 604 King St. West. Our team is currently splitting time in the office and at home. Expectation is that the office is this person's primary work location, with flexibility for some days at home.

Primary Responsibilities

Sales

Setting sales goals, performance objectives, bonus targets and business priorities in collaboration with the team. Helping to build tools that will analyze performance and provide quick metrics Developing and maintaining a strong, cohesive team through effective communication, coaching, and mentoring in order to create an environment of collaboration, inclusiveness and shared success Helping to establish and maintain a team culture that centers DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) from both an interpersonal and strategic perspective Collaborating with other divisional leaders to build upon best practices for the division's DEI goals, recruitment, onboarding, training, and annual performance reviews Working with internal stakeholders like Customer Service, Finance, Supply Chain and Operations to support customer needs and changes to the business. Championing our customers' needs and communicating areas of change, concerns, and improvements to head office Directing and participating in (as needed) account sales calls to execute sales and marketing strategies to maintain Scholastic's status as a primary vendor to our accounts

Sales Conference & Trade Shows

Overseeing, planning, organizing, and executing Canadian sales conferences, in collaboration with the Sales Director, Sr. National Account Manager and other stakeholders Attending US trades sales conferences as needed Directing and assisting with planning annual and regional shows and conventions as required (Gift Show, Book Fairs, OLA, Word on the Street)

Marketing

Working with the Sr. Marketing and Publicity Manager to develop and implement sales and marketing plans that partner with our top retailers to help support their corporate DEI initiatives and ensure the best placement for our authors and illustrators at every possible opportunity Analyzing results for programs and adjusting the scope and focus of plans when needed Working with sales representatives to build effective use of coop and analyze programs Working with Sales Director on CRM implementation Remaining up to date with retail and product sell-through trends related to the children's publishing industry and communicating all relevant information internal teams Other duties as required

Qualifications

Post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent relevant experience At least 5 years of sales, marketing, promotional and/or other relevant experience Fluent in French language would be considered an asset At least 2 years of leadership and people management experience (experience managing a hybrid team is an asset) Must have a passion for children's books and media Must have a robust understanding of the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion and is passionate about broadening representation of equity deserving communities within the Canadian media landscape Experience with creating sales strategies that take into consideration broader corporate priorities related to equity, diversity and inclusion; must know how to approach selling products to diverse communities and cultivating meaningful relationships with different demographic groups Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, BNC Sales Data/ CataList, Book Manager and comfortable learning about vendor portals Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; must have the ability to lead and collaborate with a team effectively Proven ability to analyze situations strategically and functionally Excellent organizational skills; must be driven, detail oriented with the ability to multi-task and manage conflicting deadlines effectively Must have the ability to adapt to changing priorities, problem solve effectively and work well in a deadline driven environment Must possess a valid driver's license
