Your Opportunity:

  • The Registered Nurse (RN) for Acute Pain Service (APS) is based at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. The RN is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation for all patients receiving care from APS. The APS Registered Nurse works collaboratively with the Department of Anesthesia to coordinate the provision of pain and side effect management care to patients of the Adult Acute Pain Service. They provide support, education, and leadership for nursing staff related to acute pain and side effect management. The RN reports to the Manager of Perioperative and Surgical Services Quality and Education. They work within the scope of practice of a Registered Nurse as per the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta and within AHS Policies and Procedures. The RN works collaboratively with the University of Alberta Hospital and provincial Acute Pain Service working groups.

Description:

  • As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities, and populations, while ensuring their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making, as well as teach, counsel, and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion, and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family-centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification.

Additional Required Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred; however, skills and experience relevant to nursing practice will be considered. Experience related to collecting data and supporting research would be beneficial. ACLS training is preferred.
