Your Opportunity:

The Oncology Registered Nurse plays a vital role in the integration and application of knowledge related to cancer pathophysiology, disease progression, and symptom management. This position involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating outcomes of evidence-based care and clinical interventions. Collaboration with the healthcare team is essential to ensure patients receive the highest standards of care aligned with the Nursing Department and Oncology nursing practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and identify the physical, psychological, sociological, and spiritual needs of patients and their families.
  • Facilitate referrals to other healthcare disciplines for comprehensive assessment and treatment.
  • Recognize and prioritize emergency situations, particularly those unique to cancer therapies.
  • Utilize oncology knowledge and technical skills for thorough patient assessments.
  • Document and revise nursing care plans to meet the individual needs of oncology patients.
  • Provide education, counseling, and support to patients and their families.
  • Assume leadership roles as designated by the Nurse Manager and participate in quality assurance activities.
  • Engage in professional development and education, including acting as a preceptor for nursing students.

Description:

As an Oncology Registered Nurse (RN), you will deliver a comprehensive range of nursing services to patients, families, and communities, ensuring their safety and well-being. Your role will involve employing nursing processes through critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making, while also advocating for patients and their families. You will take a leadership position in promoting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion, and maintenance.

In this role, you will provide safe, quality, patient-centered care that reflects the core values of Alberta Health Services. Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five years, completion of required courses is necessary.

Additional Required Qualifications:

  • Experience caring for patients undergoing chemotherapy, biotherapy, and radiation therapy is essential.
  • Knowledge of Theoretical Principles of Chemotherapy Administration is an asset.
  • Enrollment in or completion of an oncology certificate program is preferred.
  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong assessment and critical thinking skills are essential.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
