What can I expect to do in this role?: In this role, you will:

  • Coordinate, direct and evaluate health care programs.
  • Ensure the delivery of efficient, quality health care services including nursing, medical and other related health care services, specialized treatment units, and on site infirmary.
  • Manage the pharmacy program, including ordering, reconciling, and distributing, and ensure the maintenance and security of all medications, office equipment and medical treatment supplies.
  • Coordinate various physiological tests (e.g. urinalysis, TB testing, blood tests) and the preparation of referrals for psychiatric, treatment, Xray, optometrist, laboratory, dental and physiotherapy.
  • Develop, plan and implement the delivery of health services education programs for both inmates and staff.
  • Maintain records and statistics to identify trends and developments that have critical program/service delivery, policy and planning implications and formulate recommendations for mitigation.
  • Establish critical liaisons with other correctional health care providers to establish and maintain professional linkages and consult regarding contentious issues.
  • Respond to enquiries from the Ombudsman and other sources with respect to offenders on health care matters.

How do I qualify?:

Mandatory:

  • You are a Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

Leadership and Management Skills:

Nursing Knowledge and Expertise:

  • You have knowledge of health care administration and evidencebased health care practices.

Technical Knowledge:

  • You have knowledge of human resources practices, collective agreement provisions, financial and administrative policies, quality management, and continuous improvement practices.
  • You have knowledge of relevant legislation, such as Regulated Health Professions Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and Mental Health Act.

Other Essential Skills:
