Recreation Therapy Supervisor, to revolutionize recreational activities and take our residents' experiences to new heights.


SCOPE:

As the Recreation Therapy Supervisor, you will spearhead an exciting era of engagement and joy for our residents.

You will have the unique opportunity to develop, implement, and oversee innovative recreational programs that cater to the diverse needs and interests of our residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Development: Create and oversee dynamic recreation therapy programs that foster physical, social, emotional, and cognitive wellbeing, ensuring the individual needs of residents are met.
  • Leadership and Supervision: Lead a team of compassionate and dedicated recreation therapy assistants, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure consistent delivery of exceptional care.
  • Collaborative Planning: Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including healthcare professionals, to develop personalized care plans and integrate recreational activities into overall resident care strategies.
  • Event Coordination: Organize and oversee special events, outings, and theme days, promoting social interaction and creating memorable experiences for residents, their families, and the community.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the latest trends, research, and best practices in recreation therapy, actively seeking opportunities for improvement and implementing innovative strategies.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of resident participation, progress, and outcomes, preparing reports as required for evaluation and regulatory compliance.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Therapeutic Recreation Degree or Diploma or equivalent (Allied Degree, plus post graduate certificate, or diploma in Therapeutic Recreation)
  • Member in good standing with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario, or eligible and willing to register.
  • Considerable knowledge of therapeutic recreation and recreational therapy theory, principles, techniques, methods and professional standards of practice, standards of regulatory agencies and laws related to the practice of recreational therapy in health care agencies.
  • Considerable knowledge of evidencebased assessment instruments and treatment interventions and advanced recreational therapy practice skills in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation to restore, remediate or rehabilitate specific aspects of physical, cognitive, emotional and social functioning in order to improve functioning and independence in life activities and to reduce limitations to activity participation caused by medical, psychiatric, developmental disabilities, substance abuse, sensory impairments or other disabling conditions
  • Considerable knowledge of assistive devices, assistive technology and activity adaptations used to assist patients/clients to function as independently as possible in life activities.
  • Ability to train and provide clinical and technical supervision to recreational therapy staff and students.
  • Considerable and advanced knowledge of evaluation techniques and quality improvement activities.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a supervisory role within a longterm care or healthcare setting (preferred).
  • Ability to effectively integrate recreational therapy services with the organization's personcentred care mission, vision, values, service priorities and plan of care.
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing engaging recreational programs.
  • Strong leadership and teambuilding skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire others.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with residents, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and best practices in longterm care.
