Our growing business is seeking an experienced Compost Manager to work in your Compost department.

***The Compost Manager will oversee production operations, for the composting and tunnel facility at Champ's Farms in Aldergrove, BC. They will develop and manage procedures for the compost program to ensure optimal functioning and continuous operation. Responsibilities include compost management, ensuring compost system uptime, projects and supporting and training the composting staff in a manner that creates engagement and productivity within the team. The composting facility at Champ's Farms produces 1680 tons and the role will have a focus on expanding its capacity.

KEY RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Contribute to the vision, mission, and strategy development for all current and future composting operations.
  • Responsible for ensuring compost facility's permits and compliance with the BC Environmental Management Act (EMA) and Organic Matter Recycling Regulation (OMRR)
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to create composting processes and policies, aligned with CFFI's business goals.
  • Ensure key performance indicators for department are met and develop best practices to maximize potential.
  • Manage compost budget and ensure appropriate cost controls are in place.
  • Address any issues pertaining to composting or organic waste management as well as the health and safety of employees.
  • Document and keep records of all production reports.
  • Maintain schedules staff and compost operations.
  • Ensure machines, pump systems, conveyor belts, Overhead Crane systems are functional, and maintenance is scheduled as needed/when needed.
  • Approve timecards for employees and manage vacation requests and other employee requests.
  • Ensure that all workers adhere to policies & procedures.
  • Foster a culture of continual improvement and profitability.
  • Foster a culture of respect and collaborative teamwork.
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned as required.
  • Be available for routine evening and weekend tunnel and site checks.

To be considered for this position you must meet the following requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Fancom control systems
  • Minimum 35 years of experience in a composting leadership role in a mediumsized facility, preferably food processing.
  • Strong food processing and/or agricultural background to support composting activities.
  • Knowledge of the BC Environmental Management Act.
  • Postsecondary education in technical field or equivalent experience.
  • Certified Heavy Machinery Operator (Bobcat, Forklift, Aerial Lifts)
  • Technical knowledge of Conveyor Belt symptoms, hopper, Mixers and Overhead grain systems.
  • Understanding of Compost Quality and Process. (Moisture, process phase, supplement, Temperature)

Physical Requirements/Special Requirements:

  • Always required to speak and comprehend English. Vietnamese and Punjabi are an asset.
  • Always required to sit, stand, or walk.
  • Always required to see with or without corrective lenses.
  • Always required to utilize fine motor coordination in hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to lift to 10 pounds, occasionally required to lift up to 60 pounds.
  • Occasionally required to balance, stoop, or crouch
  • Regularly required to climb stairs.
