About the roleCoast Underwriters is looking for a Senior Commercial Marine Underwriter to join our growing team
What you'll do here:- Accept, reject, endorse, renew, or cancel policies following Coast's underwriting guidelines and procedures, applicable laws and regulations and subject to authority level as specified by the underwriting manager.
- Focus on sustainable profitable growth
- Develop business opportunities and long-term meaningful relationships with brokers
- Use effective communication and negotiating skills to maintain healthy relationships within and outside the company
- Respond to broker requests and concerns in a timely manner
- Participate in broker visits, industry functions, and marketing events in support of broker relationship development
- Rate and prepare quotes for new business and renewals
- Handle policy transactions including renewals, endorsements, and cancellations
- Review underwriting reports and make recommendations as required
- Communicate changes related to product pricing, underwriting guidelines, and new products
- Support and mentor team members within Coast Underwriters as well as other divisions at Intact
- University degree/College diploma or any combination of equivalent education and experience
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience. Prior Marine experience is a desirable asset
- Strong customer service and time management skills
- Demonstrates initiative, the ability to work under pressure, and flexibility to change
- Strong team player possessing outstanding collaboration and communication skills
- Inquisitive and self-motivated individual possessing strong analytical and negotiating skills
- Ability to develop and maintain excellent relationships with brokers
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to make decisions in time-sensitive situations, address complex problems, provide a recommended course of action, and take calculated risks
- Interested in and stay up to date on business trends or other developments impacting our industry
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- CIP designation or working towards designation
- No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada
