Health Information Management (HIM) manages the collection, storage, maintenance, retention of and access to patient health records. The HIM department ensures each health record is complete and accurate for ongoing patient care.

Coded information is used for multiple operational uses including the submission of data to CIHI, MoHLTC, Stats Canada, the World Health Organization (WHO), and other jurisdictional and national agencies.


The health record communicates between health care providers, who use its information for decisions and diagnoses, further investigations, interventions, treatment plans and follow up care.

Our goal is to facilitate exceptional patient care, by providing high quality data, to ensure appropriate funding and resource allocation.


Job Summary:

What the Role is

Reporting to the Director, Health Information Management, the Manager, HIM Education, Partnerships & Transformation Lead is responsible for departmental operations and provides direct leader coaching and support to the Release of Information, LRCP Chart Management, and Off-site Storage teams.

The Manager supports corporate and leads HIM priority initiatives, with leadership responsibility for HIM Project Facilitators.

The role is responsible for the creation and stewardship of the HIM education program at LHSC, and is a key contributor to citywide, regional, and HIM professional practice in collaboration with peer managers.


The Manager collaborates with Medical Affairs, Western, Schulich, and Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) to ensure robust clinical documentation and education programs are delivered in timely and effective ways.

The role works with clinical providers, leaders, Information Technology Services (ITS), and other regional partners. They participate on Electronic Health Record (EHR) projects, and leads HIM related implementations.

The Manager directs, controls, and evaluates the delivery of department services.

They are responsible for translating decisions of the program leadership into execution, by utilizing relationship management and working with internal and external stakeholders to achieve the necessary outcomes.

The Manager ensures their team and department operations are aligned with our mission, vision and values, while working together to successfully achieve our strategic objectives.


This role is accountable for day-to-day department activities, including the management of human and material resources, day-to-day staffing and scheduling, development and support of a healthy workplace, risk and utilization measurements, and facilitation of improvement initiatives and change management, while operating within approved operational budgets and financial guidelines and controls.

A major focus of the role is fostering effective working relationships and networks within the team/unit and with other teams across the organization.
